I mean, yeah, Max thankfully made some points about the GitS casting, but I'm really not seeing him as the seasoned veteran that a movie like this needed.

Not really. Each region could do something different for it's plot, and even genre.
Gen 1 could be 2-3 movies, doing the standard 8 badges - elite 4 plot.
Gen 2 could be more of an action movie, a rookie help investigate to return of Rocket and all that. There's even a good action set piece with Red Gyarados.
Gen 3 and onwards, it's tougher. But for Gen 5 they could do a pseudo remake of Gen 1.

Maybe. Toned down, but it's definitely a good source of inspiration.
Legendary Pictures was recently purchased by the Wanda Group, a Chinese multinational conglomerate. You can expect the movie to be set in China, Chinese actors shoehorned into the plot, and Pokémon meat being regarded as a delicacy.
