if you're just playing in 1080p you wont need the 1070
if you plan on upgrading your monitor in the future go for the 1070

looks sexy all that's missing is that 1070... prices are kinda high atm I got the evga gtx 1070 FTW for 465$ on newegg... If money is tight you should wait but if it's not and your desperate to game before summer ends get it.
Just get a 980ti it overclocks better and preforms slightly better.

pascal does perfectly fine in dx12 and vulkan - doom currently only has async support for AMD cards, and yes, pascal can do async and get some nice gains, as shown in Time Spy.
As for OP, just get a 1070. Its slightly slower than a 980Ti (the 980ti has more oc headroom and you can practically only buy pre overclocked variants) but pascal is definitely better than maxwell. The 1070 will have the edge over the 980ti in dx12 games,
I don't really know what to do. RX 480 has shown just how promising the GCN architecture is with Vulkan. I had a 7970 and it got a significant boost from running Vulkan.
The 7970 is gone though, which has forced my hand with upgrading my video card.
