I've played Original Sin Co-Op on the second hardest difficulty, it was a fucking blast. Too bad my buddy got bored after we defeated the ice tyrant, so we never finished it.
Having to spend hours on every single encounter, pathetic as it may seem, is tons of fun, but only in Co-Op. I don't really feel like playing it solo.

If you can stomach old games, I'd definitely recommend Morrowind, fallout 1/2, KOTOR 1/2 for RPGs, Dawn of War series for strategy and Star Wars: Republic Commando for a short but fun single player shooter campaign. You can also install a ps2 emulator if you have a good enough pc and a controller and play ps2 games like God Hand or anything else you can think.
For more contemporary games there is of course Witcher 2, E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy, Fallout: New Vegas (if you're into the bethesda engine games), Dragon's Dogma (sort of japanese), Metal Gear Rising: Revengance (very japanese + cuhrazy), Deus Ex: Human Revolution, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Legend of Grimrock.
Most of these I've played, the rest are just guesses. Just adding more games to your list.

Digital distribution is a useful service that most companies can't or don't want to do for themselves. Valve takes a cut out out of every sale because Steam is a big, comprehensive operation with a lot of overhead that comes with giant servers and lots of support staff. Devs use it because it would cost them more money and more effort to distribute their games themselves.
If it wasn't for Steam a lot of the games you see on there would never even see the light of day.
