It's an area that pops up abruptly in the story, lasts too long and kills the pacing of the plot.

Play as a mage, it's way more fun as a mage and more flexible than warrior and other followers do warrior better than you can. Plus you do the most damage than anyone period, and have more interesting story.
Playing a bad hero of ferelden is not canon. So remember that if you want to play like mass effect renegade. It leads to the worst ending too.
Sell everything you, only upgrade from drops never ever buy equipment, as in 3-4 levels the drops are better than any super epic sword or staff you just bought. You need your hold for skill books and other more important things.
Don't kill bad people if given the option, it always always gives you a better reward.
Also just take your time and enjoy it, its one of the best fantasy rpg games ever made.

Mages are overpowered or useless, depending mainly on whether the AI decides to pay attention to aggro ratings.
Skills critically important for tanks and rogues to do their jobs are locked beyond arbitrary level gates, and armor fit for tanks is not available until early midgame.
Dexterity is worthless until you get your defense rating above 120, then most things just can't hit you and you can do whatever you want. Max magic on a mage, don't touch it on anyone else. Never increase strength more than what you need to equip your gear; rogues use dexterity weapons and warriors should be stunning and knocking things down, not competing for dps. Constitution and willpower are always worthless, for everyone and in any amount.
Keep many stun abilities ready to interrupt retarded attacks like ogre grab or wolf overrun.
Ranged on everyone. To fight underground Germans you must become the katyusha. Every second you spend running around is a second you're not helping kill something. Force hitlocks to come to you.
Templar dispel. Mage-dominated fights are rare but are the most retarded and tiresome fights in the whole game.
Scout. When surprised or outnumbered, run to the last chokepoint.

Playing as a mage is incredibly fun. Even better if you choose arcane warrior as your second class, subbing magic for strength and being able to cast in full goddamn plate.

Cone of Cold and Walking Bomb are fucking busted. Sten is the coolest party member and he will respond positively if you hold your ground and argue with logic instead of trying to suck up to him. Loghain is an alright guy (what he did was still wrong though).

Loghains biggest problem was that he outlawed the Grey Wardens and decided to not trust them despite Marick supporting them. This distrust was caused by his paranoia of Orlaise. A justifiable fear considering his past, but he failed to take into account that even if Ferelden defeated the Blight(or the big darkspawn army), the Ferelden army would be severely weakened and Orlaise could march right back into Ferelden without much resistance.
Loghain thought he could outmaneuver the Darkspawn hoard, if it just been a Darkspawn hoard then he could have won without compromising the security and sovereignty of Ferelden. It wasn't a Darkspawn hoard, it was the Blight so his plans failed miserable and now he looks like a power hungry regicide.
Most of this could have been avoided if he didn't outlaw the grey wardens, he could have denied help from the Orlaise army while still accepting help from the wardens and other countries.
That isn't to say that's all Loghain did wrong, poisoning Arl Eamon was another mistake and makes him look like he was suppressing all his critics. IIRC he made some false promises to the mages of the circle. He was also selling Elves to slavery, which is really shocking considering Loghain had fought to free Fereldin from slavery. Some might say the ends justify the means, but Loghain was just a shadow of himself and he was clearly not fit to be a ruler. He needed to stay on the field directing army's and fighting battles, not meddling in politics.
Loghain deserved punishment, I hate the only way for him to live is to make him a warden. Another option would be to condemn him to the legion of the dead, spend the rest of his days fighting Darkspawn. He is a powerful warrior, he would have made a pretty big dent in the Darkspawn hoard before he died in the legion, but the only options are execution and making him a warden.

You could really tell that the Elves, Mages, and especially Dwarf plots weren't too mingled with the main Fereldan plotline of Redcliffe/Ashes/Denerim.
I kind of wish instead of unneeded shit like Leliana's Song and maybe Witch Hunt, that DLC would be additions to flesh out more options in the base game. Awakening was a damn good expansion though, and I'm glad it was made at least.

As a mage, you either become a physical god and shrug off attacks or become utterly useless if put at the hands of the AI(regardless of how you made it smart via Tactics/mods). As a rogue, you can complete the game naked/without getting hit. As a warrior..you become severely underpowered later on, but there are ways to get around. Especially in the expansion, thankfully they gave Warriors a bigger dick there.
Completing DLC, except for Awakening and A Tale From Orzammar, gives you items to use for the main campaign
Tell the Dog to fetch stuff.
Some auras are bugged. They might give you severely debilitating permanent debuffs

When you see a Revenant for the first time, and you're a warrior solely relying on physical attacks and no items at all, you're gonna get fucked so hard you're going to resemble the skewed guy in the Codex entry(the Revenant impales you with his sword)
Topsider's Honor is good, even if you're a rogue, but only if you're going for the Long/Dagger Dual Wielding build. Debate whether you want to use two daggers, or a longsword/dagger.
There's this DLC item which is better than everything else, looks like this thing from 40k. If you're going mage, it's a must. If you're not the tank, give it to tank.
If you're using a toaster, Butterfly Sword might blow up your toaster.

DA:I is straight out a horrible fucking experience on both a gameplay basis and story telling.
Your character is a fucking stone wall when delivering lines outside the main quest and playing anything other than a mage feels so out of line because the whole red herring part. You also miss out on a bunch of content when you can't choose specific dialogue for it either.
The combat system is outright dull with bulletsponge enemies at higher difficulties and tactic modes being clunky as fuck compared to DA:O. Mage being extremely UP compared to the other classes and works more as a support in this game more than anything. (this might be because of the nerfs I reed but it still stands)

It's mediocre. Honestly the plot itself at the start isn't all that interesting, but the moment the game tells you "go to these 4 corners of the world and gather allies", it completely goes downhill. Dwarf kingdom and mage tower are complete shit, elf part is okay and has a cool tree that speaks in rhymes (which is the most interesting thing in the area), and I don't even remember the last one, that's how memorable it was.
It's a very weak game plot wise but it has good gameplay so it's okay. I just never got why people praise its story so much. It is as generic as a story can get.

All the DLCs except for Awakening are absolutely terrible copy pasted maps so don't do them.
In the Fade there's a bunch of permanent stat boosts and you should get them all.
Two handed weapons are useless against everything except for big armored enemies like Golems.
You can miss two companions in Lothering, make sure you free Sten from the cage and go into the Inn for Leliana.

Alright, we'll go with the Tower first. Atmospherically, it was pretty great. Especially if you had the Mage origins and saw it pre-abominations. Dragon Age doesn't shy from dark, and it was very Diablo-esque.
Now as for the trek up the tower itself, I thought it was great. The Desire Demon that has the Templar under her thrall believing he's with his fictitious wife and children? That's a good moral conundrum. The pretty wide variety of side puzzles were fun too, like the summoning sciences in the library, or the Watchguard statue puzzle higher up that nets you the Dragonslayer sword.
As for the Fade, I love that it just hemorrhages free stat upgrades to you. But more than that, it's a wholly unique maze and puzzle in the game with cool powers and upgrades that you'll only ever get to use there. Turning into a Golem or a Rat and utilizing their strengths was fun, especially as a one-off experience. Further, looking into your companions' dreams and seeing their deepest fears and insecurities was good storytelling.

Conceptually the tower is Fade is not bad but execution wise it is the worst part of the game. You need to backtrack all the time because you can never return and you don't just lose items or exp you lose stat ups which is ridiculously stupid to lose.

Means loading a save again. What you do is save in front of the vendor who sells the tomes. Then buy the tomes. Each tome costs a precious sovereign, which you may or may not earn back, so you reload a save, the one where you saved infront of the vendor. Once you reload, you'll notice that even though you haven't bought the tome in this save yet, you have already unlocked its contents.
