That game was such bullshit
You got medels for how well you completed a level, and to reach the next set of levels you needed a certain amount of bronze, silver and gold medals from the previous set
But it wasn't "at least" those medals, you needed to get that EXACT number of bronze, silver and gold medals. If you played too well and got too many gold medals, you could never access the next set of levels.

Any laptop decent laptop from the past year should do native resolution fine. My Lenuvo G50--I7 processor, Intel HD 3000 GPU, 8 GB DDR3--plays 80 percent of GC games at native resolution without slowdown or hitching. And that's not even with the new Dolphin update.
