I assume the mp is dead so I just plan on grinding thru the sp campaigns. I never had any interest in Gears, but I got the entire saga for $11, so fuck it right?

Good pick up. 3 isn't dead as it's back compat and tonnes of Xboners play it with 360 players, 1 is because of UE and 2 is because 3 is just better in every way. Great series, even if I think the semi horror theme was dropped quickly after 1.
