Can someone explain to me why devs constantly pander to PC users when we have proof that they buy games in fewer numbers than people who play on consoles or handhelds?

It seems like a waste of time
e constantly trying to chase the type of people who don't buy games in the first place.

This, they try to cater to consoles as best they can but with a significantly smaller installbase compared to last gen and the gen before that they need to pander to an increasing number of PC users who have chosen to boycott consoles this generation.

I don't see why Azure need to get ported though, the 3DS has a massive installbase. Even I bought the game back when I had a 3DS and I was very stingy with my money back then because 3DS games were usually so expensive

I've done it though and I'm sure others do too.

The argument at hand though is that pirating games and praising them gets others to buy it.

As someone who pirates most of my games and posts a lot of screenshots, videos, and webms, I can absolutely say that I've talked tons of people into purchasing games and that's without accounting for the untold number of lurkers.

I remember VC getting shilled hard by its fanbase really hard and that game did really well. There was literally zero publisher marketing, it was all Durante and fags like me making threads of forum topics.

Why do you act like porting a game costs the same amount as developing the entire game from scratch? Why do you act like both versions should sell a similar amount of copies when the circumstances involved are incomparable in the first place? Why do you act like you don't know the answer to your own question?

Devs "pander" to PC users to earn more money.
>>
>>345079913
It's not. As of yet, the only uncut version is the PC version, but only if you play with japanese voices. If you play with english voices, it's cut.

PC users say that regardless of how many copies of a game sells
>>
>>345080036
It's obviously not and the lifetime sales will make a difference to the company's purse otherwise they wouldn't do it.

>If everyone paid $1 for it, that's $24,000
>As it is, it is $15
>No extra work really needed, you just have to port a game you've already made to PC

And that's why. Free money.

Azure Striker Gunvolt is a bad example of this though. It was originally designed to work on a two-screen DS, with stylus controls. As it is, it isn't ported over very well, although I still think it is a pretty fun little game. If Mighty No. 9 was half as good, it'd be better than nothing.
>>
>>345080036
you mad, cuck?
>>
>>345080036
There is obviously enough success for the developers to invest a small amount of money to port the games.
>>
>>345079985
>>345080036

30k x 14.99$ is no peanuts to small time devs but 3DS needs to have the definitive version. They need to show they support consoles first and foremost before PC, that's the game was released with cut content in a bad port for PC because its how the PC market has to be treated

There is success to be found, though. Gunvolt didn't sell well because of the censorship/xe fiasco, and also the fact that the PC port is total shit still, but it was worse on release.
I mean, if there wasn't success to be found, why is Spike Chunsoft suddenly bringing over their entire library of games, with multiplatform releases?

>>345080241
Same thing with ArcSys. I'm so happy to have all kinds of great fighting games on Steam so I don't have to play that crappy Skullgirls.

I have them all for PS3 anyway, but the online community for them are so much more chill and talkative than the console versions, probably because on the PC, we can actually type on a keyboard.

I just wish ArcSys didn't port games to PC with a year+ delay.
We'll probably always be stuck with the inferior version 4-5 months in because the new BB/GG is out.
I'm glad they're doing it regardless.
>>
>>345080671
I do wish we'd get them same-day too, but it is also nice playing games I haven't played in a while. UNIEL just came out, and it was always my favorite, but I hadn't played it for months because I wanted to concentrate on Guilty Gear. Feels great to pick it up again. Just wish it was [st], so I could fool around with two new characters.

And having an actual English-translated version of Melty Blood that I can take to the mall on my laptop. NICE.

And let's not forget about their masterpiece, Battle Fantasia. Just kidding.

Indie dev here

Steam sales numbers have dropped dramatically over the past few years. An average game these days sells like 4000-5000 copies. These games did really well by comparison.

There is too much competition, backlogs are getting too big, and people are ditching desktop PCs for phones.

Because it is easy as hell and requires almost no effort to port games to the PC, so even if they do sell very low they still make a profit. Why do you think so many PS4 games are being ported? The PS4 and windows have the same x86 architecture so it requires almost no money to port
>>
>>345078742
The game made money just selling 100k copies worldwide. A pc port that almost cost nothing to make still pushed 24k copies, and it will go up years after it's release, too.
>>
>>345078742
Easy to port and less hoops to jump through, so even something like 1000sales make a proffit if the console version did okay.

In a nutshell: why not
>>
Because they know we have the money, why not port a game that takes less than the original cost of the game and then sell it for the original price?
