That would be an SRPG. Anyways, this one is a shmup called Gothic wa Mahou Otome. It's free to play but only available in Japan, so if you wanted to try it, you'd have to download QooApp and search for it on there.
The gameplay is very basic shmup type stuff. The girls are actually the various shot types you can use. You can power them up with items or by sacrificing cards you don't need anymore to give them EXP and level them up, evolve them, etc. I believe it's a pretty common system in Japanese mobile games.

I dunno how long ago you stopped but there's also the affinity points for both the girls to get. I maxed out both of them a while ago but it doesn't really do much besides give them extra dialogue and make them sometimes dodge when you try to tap them.Pio becomes reluctantly okay with having her chest rubbed.
Other than that you can try to level up the shop customers and the fairies. The latter is a pretty tedious RNG grind though. The former is just a tedious grind. But hey that's what Potion Maker is.

Kinda but not really. As you clear higher difficulties, you unlock Death difficulty, which has many more bullets and suicide bullets of sorts. It's still notably easier than Cave's arcade games but it's not the same effortless walk in the park that the early stages are.
