they've always felt like more of a game where fights are decided primarily in your build, not in any skill during a fight; which often consists of just spamming. Your build is only as interesting as you want it to be, plenty of them make use of multiple skills.
It's mostly Primal Strike/Fire Strike builds that end up with very few skills because the main attack is the main focus on the build.

Not at all, I've played both Dual pistol Fire Strike build in SC Ultimate and Primal Strike Elementalist in HC and none of them ever reached the amount of damage my current HC Spellbreaker build does and he's not even 85 or fully geared.
Tried playing it with my friend the multi didn't feel very synchronized more like one person running around doing quests while the other person was just there to help kill things. Unless my friend set the game up wrong or something was just weird not being able to read the story/dialog if I didn't initiate it.

your average pierce damage blademaster has way over 40k dps shown, easily does more than double that in reality because of item abilities, 3k+ OA crits plus the -% resistance and rapes every boss in ultimate within less than 3 secs
all while having maximum resistances and being virtually invulnerable

You're pretty much right, but there are also devotion skills and different skills on weapons and gems (or wth they're called). It's the perfect game to play while I listen to some political podcasts/shows/radio etc. I also like that there are a lot of build combinations. I played Diablo 2 a lot and they're is not much difference regarding diversity in these games.

Shown DPS is bullshit and varies greatly from one build to another, hell it doesn't even know I'm using Beronath's Fury as my autoattack.
My elementalist had 28k shown DPS and yet was a lot weaker dps wise to my current spellbreaker.
And if I remmeber correctly, the meme 0 physique Blademaster build used more than one active skills + passives.
