>Muvluv out on steam
What's your excuse for not playing VNOTY, /v/?
Been playing it since thursday. Enjoying Extra lot more than I did years ago I last time read it.
>>345073897

I want to commit a crime
>>345073897

>>345075363
Well until then I won't be reading it.
>>345075782
You could read almost to the end without missing pretty much anything. If I remember right, only thing you miss is Meiyas bared boobs almost at the beginning and only see her underboob.
Its been years since I read this last time, so I might not remember everything though.
I don't really like vns. Good for you that your shit is getting translated though (again?) though.

>>345078553
Nice argument, dickbreath.
>>345078598
I agree with you but I'd like to hear from someone who's read it all the way through as well.
>>345078961
I've read it all the way through. Only part 3 is decent, but you have to have read part 1 and 2 for it to be good and part 1 and 2 are weeaboo bait about fucking different waifus through space and time which literally becomes a plot point in 3.
>>345078961
I have read it all the way through. That's why I'm telling you it's weeaboo bait.
Already played it, probably will buy Alt if it has a MacOS version if not I'm not going to even bother
>>345073897
I already played it cuck
Because I already played it Years ago when the translation came out.
>>345078961
Extra is cliched schoolromance setting
Unlimited gets into more serious tone with its fucked up world, aliens and mechs, but still not being complete grim dark
Alternative gives you a nice fucked up world, dead waifus and everything you could ask for. If you grew up liking characters in first two parts, you will love this.
>>345079023

Are you falseflagging at this point?
>>345079847
Its a shame if you didn't like it, but I respect your opinion. I loved the trilogy though. But even I saw the problems that Extra had. Still ended up loving the characters and the series as whole.
>>345079527
That's the thing, Anon.
vnfags are so warped from reading VNs with that mix of poor writing, overly drawn plot and at best mediocre, "it can't be helped' rich translation, that their standards are completely fucked up.
That's why they're always pissing on flavor of the month light VNs like KS or recently Valhalla.
I for one am glad that Muv-luv is now on steam and will be played and dropped by a lot of people, exposing that VN for the garbage it is and VNfags who always quote it as one of the best for the tasteless faggots they are.
>>345080223
>exposing that VN for the garbage it is
You think that's gonna happen after all the other shit that's on Steam and sells like hotcakes to the weebs? If anything Muv-Luv will cement the fact VN's are amazing because it's miles above whatever the fuck came out of Steam.

I haven't read it and I don't plan too because I'm afraid of this. So many people have sworn that it's amazing but 50 hours is a fucking huge investment and it really does seem likely that a lot of the fans have forgotten the difference between 'good for a VN' and 'good.'

Because I'm not linguistically challenged, so I've already read the Japanese Win 7 release long ago.

>>345080975

>>345080975
This so much. Extra was trash, Unlimited was meh, starting part of Alternative was good enough because of the different way things went, and then it starts going on and on and on about dumb shit, forced shitty Sumika and dumb loli drama, random shitty side-characters which I don't give 2 shits about, etc. Dropped it exactly during this part. Maybe one day, in a fit of insanity, I'll actually get to finishing it. After I skip all the dumb shit. But if the writing is good enough, you should never be bored or skipping anything besides what you've already read word for word. Recent example of good writing is FM. But we all know how that sold, due to it being niche af.

Edge of Tomorrow is based on a Manga by the Death Note author, called All You Need is Kill.
Both have almost NOTHING to do with MuvLuv. If anything is blatantly inspired by MuvLuv its Attack on Titan. And even then AoT doesn't tug at your heartstrings as good as MuvLuv does. I think MLA was pretty good, I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone not wanting to pour 100 hours into reading a VN, or who wouldn't get invested in the girls during Extra.
Also, if you liked Edge of Tomorrow, read All You Need is Kill. It's MILES better. Girl was also way prettier in the Manga.
>>345084123
>>345084024
I was one of the few who got into Muv Luv blind and was told my by friend who was into VNs to just beat both routes vaguely hinting on a "true ending". I was rather new to VNs at the time so when I got to Unlimited, it was really crazy for me to see such a vast difference in tone and genre.
I guess I'm rather dubious how people don't hesitate to drop such a big turnabout in recent years. I suppose it's like the Darth Vader twist where everyone knows about it. Oh well.

Been a few years since I read muv luv, but I agree on some points in this pic. The parts I dont agree with is how he shit talks Takeru. He was honestly just a normal kid ( who was a fucking dick in extra admittedly) who lived a completely normal life who was then pushed into a world where he suddenly had to become a soldier and fight risking his life at any moment. And then in Alternative he had his view of life and morals and shit crushed since they obviously didnt fit this new world. In the end he was just a normal fucktwat kid who had to face a fuckload of shit in a few years, of course he would be a whiny shit about it and lose hope and what not. Wouldnt surprise me if the one who wrote this also thinks that Shinji is an awful MC as well.
The other point is the rape scene. I thought it was done well to show how completely and utterly fucked it was. And wasnt she enjoying because they gave her some fluid or some shit that made her body like it? Dont really remember. Truly fucked up though.

Because you got upset that people recognize the Manga which is by a rather famous Manga artist, over the novel which was made by a literal who with no other notable works.
Abe's art style, like it or not, is iconic and easy to recognize, and the Manga adaptation is legit good. Superior to the film.

Because its written in Nip, and I can't read moonrunes.

Yes, and the fixes there didn't work for me.
I want to chomp a muv luv !
>>345088340
It's a huge investment, and very flawed, but the payoff at the makes it worth it.
The writing isn't very good, often getting very dense and wordy, and excessive with pointless shit, but the story itself is quite good. It's also got good lore. ML will make you cry bitch tears when you're done, and it's because of that, that it gets praise. However, its hardly the best VN out there, and Id only recommend it to people willing to endure all the shit, to get to the good payoff at the end, as well as all the good moments along the way.
Also, it's just me, but how much you like ML, and MLA in particular, which is the best part, depends solely on how much you like Sumika during Extra. I liked her a lot, so I enjoyed MLA, but others who may have preferred other characters probably prefer Unlimited.
>>345073897
Muv-Luv is garbage and anyone who's openly a fan of it should be completely disregarded.

>>345073897

>>345088909
>but the payoff at the makes it worth it.
Actually there are many people who would argue otherwise, which is why opinion on MLA's status as a 'kamige' is heavily disputed.
Personally, I think the payoff isn't worth it and the ending is kind of retarded. Maybe if Extra and UL were shortened considerably I'd rethink my stance.
>>345079847
Edge of Tomorrow is vastly underrated here and on /a/.
I don't even know why either. It had a cliched premise that was subverted, a start/middle/end, a relatable main character, decent acting, humour/dark humour, plenty of action, and a nice ending.I was surprised Tom Cruise could play anything other than the badass hero who singlehandedly saves the day.
>>345073897

>>345089218
Shit, no idea then. I'm using 7 too and I have no problems with it. They should have fixed the compability issues with this release, but I guess some shitty bugs are still there.
>>345073897
Because I already read Extra and Unlimited years ago, why would I buy a gimped version with cut content?
>>345089075
It depends a lot on how much you become invested in the characters during Extra, especially Sumika, since Alternative is mostly about her.
And how much you like Sumika depends on how much you buy into the romance with a childhood friend during her route in Extra.
MuvLuv doesn't work if you don't become invested in the characters, which be very hit or miss due to how cliche Extra is. Which is why I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.
Personally, I read MuvLuv at a very lonely low point in my life, and Sumika's route struck a lot of chords with my youth. Since I too had a childhood friend who was in love with me, who I left behind when I moved away to a different country. So the payoff was worth it for me, but different people will get different milage out of it. I remember that even while reading it, I disliked how wordy it was, but Alternative made it worth it for me. But I can understand why it's so polarizing.
I enjoyed it, but like I said, I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.
>>345089390
>cut content
There will be an R18 patch later.
>>345089265
Have you watched Tropic Thunder and The Last Samurai?
Tom Cruise is actually a decent actor when he's not playing Tom Cruise.
>>345089502
>Les grossman will never be in another movie
>>345089425
>MuvLuv doesn't work if you don't become invested in the characters,
You could say that about almost any story really and it's hard to do considering how poorly written and dry Extra and UL are. It doesn't help that the climax portions in MLA where everyone dies is so fucking hamfisted and rote that I couldn't see it as anything more than cheap emotional manipulation.
I never bought into the, "It's supposed to be cliched and boring because it's making fun of SoL!" excuse for the first half either.
I just started reading it. I supported the kickstarter, but I havn't read it before, only FSN and SnU. Looking forward to it considering the rep it has. So far it's decent, but fairly standard harem romcom stuff. Sumika best girl of course.
>>345074318
>Enjoying Extra lot more than I did years ago
Not a good sign senpai
>>345089598
>Sumika best girl
No
>A cute maid with cute covered hairbuns style
Please tell me she has a route. I'd tap that.
>>345089598
Frankly its perfectly fine to skip Extra and just read the synopsis
>>345089673
I'm considering whether to buy this or not. I've never played any VNs unless Ace Attorney and Zero Escape games count. Is it true that there's cut content and I'd be better off waiting?
>>345089265
Seriously anything Tom Cruise has been doing lately is pretty great
>Oblivion
>Jack Reacher
>Previous two MI movies
>Edge of Tomorrow
>>345089692
Not this meme again.
>>345089715
>>Jack Reacher
If you're referring to the first one it's really only half-decent if you haven't read the books. Tom Cruise is playing a guy who is like 6'2 and 230 pounds of muscle.
>>345089425
>It depends a lot on how much you become invested in the characters during Extra, especially Sumika, since Alternative is mostly about her.
I liked meiya more and I still consider it to be one of the best VN's I've ever read. It pushed me to start learning japanese so I didn't miss out again.
>>345089715
Tom Cruise is becoming a better actor with age just like DiCaprio.
>>345089796
The novels are pulp trash though and the novel Reacher is a pretty much wish fulfillment. It's even stated in the novels that he's just a hunk of muscle despite never even working out.
>"We knew this guy was big, smart and tough, but “Never Go Back” offers this description: “an extreme mesomorph physique, with a six-pack like a cobbled city street, and a chest like a suit of N.F.L. armor, and biceps like basketballs, and subcutaneous fat like a Kleenex tissue.” Reacher achieves this look with zero gym time and a pie and cheeseburger diet."
Quality work right there.
Someone post the beta being alpha as fuck with that girl

Bit much for a vn don't you think, I really do want to play extra though
Is this porn
>>345090060
Clannad is like $60.
>>345089673
She's kind of boring so far, I don't get her story at all. She shacks up with MC because...reasons. Even though shes already rich as fuck? She is literally wish fulfilment personified at the moment
>>345090209
steam doesn't allow porn.
there will be an r18 patch later though

It's fucking ancient news and was released 5 years ago in english?

Yui and Cryska are better than Sumika and Meiya, yes
>>345090520
never coming out, it uses denuvo
>>345090060
>Bit much for a vn don't you think,
No, it's really not. If anything it's really cheap compared to the average price of a VN in Japan. VNs are a very niche market with high prices that only manages to survive due to second hand sales and people selling the premium stuff they get from pre-orders. The title is going to cost you about approx £62 if you bought it in Japan
>>345090597
nice joke.
>>345090586
Yui and Cryska make better heroines in my opinion. Sumika was pretty one dimensional and Meiya... I just never felt anything for Meiya.
>>345090686
>liking token sister character and a literal heroin addict
>>345090615
To be fair the kickstarter made over a million dollars. That should've been more than enough to translate 3 VNs.
>>345090060
>£26.99
I would say that for like 50 hours of content is actually a pretty solid price.
>>345084475
>Also, if you liked Edge of Tomorrow, read All You Need is Kill. It's MILES better.
Eh. Arguable. They were both pretty good.
>>345073897

The VN part.

you first. I'll carve your name into a rock for you.
>>345090859

Alright what the fuck is this "kys"?
>>345090906
You can stop shitposting any time now.
>>345090736
Which means nothing, they aren't going to drop the price because the kickstarter got alot more money then they were expecting.
>That should've been more than enough to translate 3 VNs.
While that might be true, that's not what's going to happen. They are just going to be encouraged to start more project and hope to strike gold again
>>345091013
the irony of that statement was completely lost on you I'm sure.
Kill yourself.
>>345090961
>>345091000
it stands for "kiss your sister"
>>345089265
I was skeptical of Edge of Tommorrow but I agree with you, once I saw it I thought it was the best Sci-Fi I've seen in years. It's just a very entertaining movie and even though the premise is nothing special it executes it extremely well. Great movie, I think some people just couldn't get over their skepticism of yet another Tom Cruise sci-fi blockbuster
>>345090859
>>345089692
Not at all. If you skip Extra you ruin MuvLuv for yourself.
>>345089595
Yeah, you can. But in MuvLuv us meant to kinda pander to Otaku in that all the girls are a stereotypical wish fulfillment of sorts. Like you're supposed to catch the feels for at least one of them in order for the despair of MLA to really sink in.
In works especially well if Sumika was your girl of choice cause of all the shit that happens to her, and then reading her diary, and so on and so forth, and when you combine that with the lovey dove happy times of Extra, it really works.
Imo, the best part of Alternative is when Takeru goes back to his timeline, and shit from the Beta timeline starts affecting it. That was the part that really got me personally.
>>345089598
Sumika is best girl. Keep reading and get the fuck outta this thread to avoid spoilers.
>>345089673
I never liked Meiya all that much. She was only decent in Unl. But her stupid design among other things always bugged me. Her sister was much better.
>>345090232
They're all kinda wish fulfillment in a way, but it's most evident with Meiya, yeah. Still Sumika's devoted deredere is a bit much, and beyond what a real girl would be like. Still, I found Sumika to be the most believable out if all of them, in Extra I mean. She often did just behave like a lovey dovey high school girl would. Especially when she starts getting jealous and heartbroken during Meiya's route.
I am really glad we all can agree that Kasumi is best girl in the original trilogy, followed very closely by gender-swapped Shuu Shirakawa.
>>345091058
Your lack of self awareness is quite ironic.
>>345090686
I liked their designs a lot, but I couldn't stomach the anime.
>>345091258
if you're referring to my heroin comment then you're still wrong. Cryska literally dies because she goes cold turkey from drugs that Sandek gives her.
>>345091134
>yet another Tom Cruise sci-fi blockbuster
Tom Cruise doesn't make a lot of sci-fi movies though.
>>345091339
I thought she died because she's a failed test tube baby?
>>345091304
Its hard to like when Sandek was the only competent commander, that actually did things, there.
>>345091213
>They're all kinda wish fulfillment in a way, but it's most evident with Meiya, yeah.
Yeah, Sumika is shallow as a puddle as well, but Meiya comes with that extra level of requiring you to suspend your disbelief at her magically appearing in the protags bed. Anyway I'm aware that extra is merely the setup for bigger things to come so I'm not worried about it, I'm actually enjoying the light fluffy story so far and know it's going to lead to something epic so I'm just going along with it
>>345075286
was Sumika tentacle rape removed?
>>345091342
Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow.

>>345091447
>Sandek is portrayed as evil
>Was actually instrumental in saving the world
I didn't expect that desu.
>>345091483
Yeah, that's kinda how you wanna do it. Sumika was indeed very shallow, but she was still the most believable out of all the heroines.
Like >>345090686 said, Yui and Criska were much better, but not by a huge margin either. MuvLuv is plagued with shallow one dimensional characters. It's more of a good ride really.
>>345089673

Vanilla Sky, Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Oblivion, Edge of Tommorrow. A significant chunk of his movies post 2000 have been Sci-Fi. The rest are Mission Impossible, small parts in minor movies and Jack Reacher
