So, almost two (holy shit!) years since Destiny released. It was an absolute letdown, but now that The Taken King has came out and the game seems to be improving drastically with every new expansion, what does /v/ think of it?

No meme opinions please.

I got back into about a week ago and am enjoying it again. If you like it you'll have to take six month break periods because you'll move on to other stuff and come back.

It's not really good, but it's better than the division which is shit

I'm still waiting for that PC version. Don't have a console.

I honestly can't even tell what people saw in the division. I recently bought a ps4 from craigslist that came with the division and I literally could not play it for more than 2 hours.

I mean, did everyone play the same beta I did? how did people manage to stay hyped after seeing how fucking bland and boring it was?
>>
>>345069058
You're missing out, anon. I hope one day you will be able to experience it.
>>
I like Destiny outside of raiding. I would like raid-tier mechanics and exploration, in strikes. Next expansion has one new strike, and overall Bungie is relying on updating old content too much. They've done is consistently, just update VoG because its the best raid they've made so far and update the other raids/strikes over time.

I will buy Destiny 2 on PC for sure though, especially since the 360/PS3 won't get Destiny 2 so we might get a game with nice big zones and non-shitty transitions.

Division was always going to fail, it was trying to be a loot based RPG in a setting that can't allow for interesting fights or loot. I got my money's worth so I don't are, it was a fine experience with a friend in co-op talking over skype the whole 40-50 hours we played it

I'm bored of it. This is coming from someone who played since beta. I didn't even play the raid for the taken king, just Trials of Osiris.

I do think it did a good job of releasing decent enough content to keep me playing for that long. I mean it is doing something right, considering I dropped the division after little over a week.

However, it's hard to play games that use rpg progression with new DLC and not feel like you are wasting time. I found that I was playing to "not fall behind" instead of playing for fun.

Yeah. I'm not really into FPS, but its art direction since the first introduction really captivated me.

I liked it well enough. It was a nice time waster. It definitely didn't live up to the massive amount of hype people were putting into it, but that doesn't automatically mean the game is devoid of fun. It definitely had its moments and the fundamental mechanics of the game were slick and felt good.

I wish I could muster the energy to get back into it but I feel like I'd have some serious catching up to do since I haven't seriously played since last summer. Playing catch up unfortunately sounds like a chore so that's keeping me from getting back into it.

I hope for the love of fuck Destiny 2 has some kind of matchmaking for raids and what not. Destiny LFG was such a pain in the ass. Better community tools at least for fucks sake.

I'd say it's atleast a solid 7/10 game. /v/ can suck my dick.

>I found that I was playing to "not fall behind" instead of playing for fun.

I find this true for the most part, but the content is also enjoyable by itself.

Not to mention that the crucible is amazing fun.

I was being sarcastic. I know that console games tend to incense some people on this board.

I think it's great game and easily the best in it's genre. I got this game for $60 with the full package after the taken king was out so I'm not biased towards it.

But the game does the whole FPS progression RPG thing FAR better than any other game on the market. FPS is made for action action action and Bungie realized that which is why there is no traversing a world for a large amount of time. Select a mission, drop in the world and area, do your shit, then leave. No bullshit and no padding. Sometimes open worlds work and sometimes they dont, here it fucking doesn't. That's how it should be, riding around large worlds is fucking tiresome in a game like Borderlands or anything in this genre. Unless it's a game like NV where it's more about storytelling and choice aspects over action than that's how it should be.

Besides that the game is pretty polished. Gunplay is good, graphics are pretty, everything is fairly smooth, some of the bosses are actually really damn good for a FPS too. And there's tons of lore as well.

Yeah. I actually really loved the strikes in the taken kind, and almost all of them had new mechanics, phases, and memorable moments.

My favorite part about destiny is the lore and sense of adventure. I really think Bungie will continue to make the game better. I honestly can't wait for Destiny 2 and what they can do once they drop older console generations.

>I feel like I'd have some serious catching up to do

Like I mentioned before, I just bought a PS4 not too long ago. I got a friend to gameshare me destiny and I managed to get to 310 mostly by myself in about 3 weeks.

And if you haven't played the new content, it should be all the more entertaining.

This. People don't realize that what they want is not an open world game, but the sense of the discovery that comes along with it.

Destiny lacked that at launch, and still largely does to this day, but it seems that Bungie is working towards addressing that.

your lucky you didnt pay twice that for the taken king
>>
>>345070368
I have bought the game literally three times over. I really didn't care about the price cuts, because, while it feels like I was robbed, it's not as if they could maintain a healthy business model forcing you to spend 100 dollars on DLC as soon as you get the game.

Either way, the moment that the new stuff comes out, the old content gets left behind, and only those who where there at the beginning actually got to experience it properly.

Hype train

Its had a huge drop off since and their big content stuff is just boring. They still haven't sold the issue of boring loot.
>>
I wouldn't call it an absolute letdown. It was a mild disappointment. Taken King helped but it didn't keep me invested in it.

It let me down pretty bad. Probably because I expected an 11/10. But still, it was just the fact that the story got rewritten, amazing concepts scrapped, marty fired, and other shit like that that made the final product have a slightly sour feeling to it.

The only thing that is keeping this game from its full potential is corporate and upper management. They had barely any budget to work on, because most of Activision's $500 million was spent on advertising. The developers have shoddy, proprietary tools to work with which makes getting anything done a nightmare since they break all of the time adding day, or even weeks, to a task that should take 6 hours. Management calls the developers into countless pointless meetings that just waste time so they can circle jerking over their "11/10 product" when they could be making the pvp less shitty instead. I'm hoping they're really going all out on the sequel, because if it's not a complete turnaround from Destiny 1, I'm done. HR just needs to let the engineers and developers do their fucking jobs with no constraints.
