You don't need to PvP in ashran. PvE enemies drop currency which you can trade to npcs in your base for honor. This is why it's best to grind honor now because who knows if you can still PvE to get PvP items after prepatch

The Naaru aren't necessarily good guys here. All they want is someone ambitious and somewhat strong to put in place to fight the Void/Legion with no questions asked. All Illidan wants is to show off that HE was the one to beat the Legion, and doesn't really care how he does it.
Illidan will get 'blessed', go to rub in into Tyrande and Malfurion's recently saved faces, and that'll be when Maiev straight up assassinates him. The Naaru aren't happyq and show up to 'punish' Maiev and that's when Elune arrives, scolds the Naaru for choosing Illidan, and blesses Maiev into becoming one of her champions. (Sort of again.)

Lor'themar's irrelevancy mostly comes from the fact that all he wants is to keep his people safe, and generally stays out of Horde politics to avoid stepping on toes.
His big moment came in the Isle of Thunder when he and Jaina were about to face off before Taran Zhu called them out for their shit, and Themar made mention that he was building up resources to resist Garrosh.

Titans can kill Old Gods. Pretty easily, too. It's just that doing so completely fucks up everything in the general area.

That's nu canon.
In the original canon Titans could only kill one (Y'shaarj apparently) and that cost the titan who did that his own life. And Y'shaarj is still not permanently dead and can potentially be revived.
You see lovecraftian horrors are just too powerful of a concept to include them in any fictional story as acting entities and not just a backdrop for a smaller story. Their whole purpose is to show the insignificance of what we're used to call sentient life in the universe.
