There isn't much reason for Nintendo to keep pushing hardware. They could easily distribute these games digitally, give people an account to log what games they own and let people run the games on any device or any new Nintendo system that they buy.
The least they could have done is make this thing play cartridges, gameboy games, or third party games for the NES. I don't even think it can be updated, so it's worse in every possible way to alternatives like a RetroPi accept appearance.
I don't get why people would eat this up when even the OUYA had more functionality and you can play NES, SNES, and Sega games on an Amazon FireStick that costs $40 for the cheapest version which does a way more than just play 30 games.
The only reason I can imagine that this exists is that Nintendo had a warehouse full of old Wii parts that they wanted to get rid of

What a lot of /v/itgins here don't understand is that Nintendo isn't releasing this thing for ease of access to NES games, or simply "a better way to play." Just checking ebay listings for a few of those games. Castlevania 1 and 2 carts are going on ebay for anywhere between $70 or $100+ boxed. Megaman 2 is around $50. Ghosts n Goblins is $60. Zelda II is about $80-$100 etc. Most people by now know that many NES and SNES carts are collectors items. You'd have to be extremely lucky to come across them at """""any"""" garage sale.

they released some plug and play shit similar to this years ago. I bought one for sega genesis. It looked like a mini genesis and came pre loaded with echo the dolphin (only reason I bought it cause of nostalgia), a few sonic games, and a few others but I can't remember what they are. Shit is cool. Nothing beats playing older games with the actual controller (or at least one designed exactly like it)
