Longggg ass time FF fan, but only just got to FF4 this year. At the risk of sounding like a neckbeard, this game's plot is actually pretty profound considering it was 1992 and SNES. I'd love to see the game be fully remade with today's technology and scale. It would throw me for a huge ass loop. As a matter of fact, it did, 24 years after its release. Awesome game and one of my favourite FFs. I'm just ashamed it took me getting past my teenage too-coolness to get around to it.

It has Espers, which give characters magic based on which one is equipped, and character-specific commands. The problem there is that only a couple of commands can compete with magic, so physical characters and anyone who's reliant on an annoying to use command get thrown by the wayside.

The fight with Zeromus is pretty much the ending to any season of Sailor Moon. Use the power of all your friends, focus it into a Crystal and defeat the bad guy with love and friendship.
Except everything before was trying to be a serious Shounen story. And Zeromus was so easy, you didn't even need the Crystal to beat him. He was weaker than random mob spawns in his own dungeon.

Other JRPGs aped the game, and FFIV is one of the games that people play either middle or near last when plaything through the series.
I personally feel FFIV is one of the best FF games to introduce someone into the series. It's the quintessential classic FF game that set up a lot of the series' tropes.

Final Fantasy is all about imitating other popular concepts. They usually come up with a unique setting, but when it comes to story, it copies other works. I've even seen them copy Dragon Quest on various occasions. Not that it should surprise you.

After going through that ridiculous dungeon fighting zombie dragons and red dragons, I don't see how Zeromus was suppose to be harder. He had a much easier pattern than the sub bosses like Behemoth or Dragons. And when it comes to the DS version, some mob groups were even more difficult than bosses. Like the fucking Amazon + Sorceress combo with endless Thundara and counters.

That said, the final dungeon was still more trying overall.

With pretty much every boss after the Magus Sisters, you have to cast shell, protect and blink on everyone. This makes getting Omnicast with Rosa so vital. But in typical FF fashion, you have no way of knowing how to get it without reading a guide. To make it 'harder'.

Edward was mostly a pussy that manned up. Then he kinda lost it again and became GAR as fuck as well as getting that hot piece of secretary ass. Also possibly got it on with some sylphs.
Kain gets his jealousy exploited, got mindfucked two or three times, exiled himself, and had to deal with his darkside wrecking havoc. In the end, he just helps Cecil's kid become a good airship captain.

The snes version is an unplayable piece of garbage that has a clusterfuck of cliches for a story and incredibly bland, repetitive, easy gameplay.

Game of Thrones is a horrible example for you to make since it is the epitome of forced death scenes and bad plot twists. And that's exactly what FFIV did. We're not demanding FFIV be more like Game of Thrones. We're pointing out it already is. And that's why its bad.
