Red Dead was easilly one of the best games of last gen, and probably the best thing Rock Star has ever made.
GTA5 on the other hand was a boring pile of shit and undoubtedly one of the worst games in the GTA franchise.

RDR. Wish I could play it on my ps4. Don't want to dig out my ps3. Game really is amazing though. I never skip the cutscenes. Atmosphere is perfect and the gunplay is much better than gta5. If you even remotely like wild west stuff I don't see how you could hate this game ever.
I'm scared to replay Red Dead in case it doesn't hold up on replay. I've found with every other rockstar game that they aren't as fun the second time through. I'm scared to ruin my fantastic memories.

RDR by an order of magnitude is the better game. It doesn't feel like it's missing anything. On the other hand, GTA V feels like a bunch of random shit thrown together and then gets cut short at the end. Think about the last fucking mission, go kill some random triad leader who you never fucking see in the entire game. It's a joke.
Besides that, the characters in GTA V are completely unlikable in every way. RDR on the other hand, almost every character is so wonderfully written that you can't help but feel a connection with them, good or bad. Anyone who played the game and didn't genuinely want to slice the throats of those government agents, is a soulless human being. Meanwhile in GTA V, I can't give a fuck for anyone, even (especially) the protagonists. Just an awful awful game.

Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite games ever. I spent more time than I care to mention playing in its open world and some of my most fond gaming memories involve running around with friends in its multiplayer.
I did not like GTA 5 at all. No, I'm not going to say that GTA 4 was better. I cannot say that because I never played GTA 4. The only reason I purchased GTA 5 is because it was by the same people who made RDR and the game was getting perfect 10 scores with critics proclaiming it "the best game ever made."
It's obvious that the massive amount of time, effort, and money that went into GTA 5 was funneled into little meticulous details that are neat, but don't really effect the game. The world is beautiful, but your player will soon tire of looking at your pretty sandbox and will want to do something fun. In that regard, GTA 5 has nothing to offer. Story missions consist of watching cutscenes, then driving across the entire map while your character chats with an NPC in the car, then watching another cutscene when you get to your destination. The primary gameplay mechanic in GTA 5 is following the yellow line on your minimap. The the game has no story worth telling. I finished GTA 5 feeling like I was on the butt end of some kind of practical joke.

I'm sure this section of my list isn't as agreeable
RDR because I love how believable the game world to justify how empty with being the Wild West. but it makes up for nice vistas and some random encounters. The Undead Nightmare are pretty great with the mythical creatures
I mean, I played RDR and got bored incredibly quickly but played GTA V to completion no problem, as someone that loves the western aesthetic.
RDR is very good but GTA V has a level of depth, care, and attention to detail I still can't get past. It took everything GTA IV did wrong and fixed it.

They are only the games I've beaten, and only the ones I've beaten in the last 4 years since I didn't want nostalgia ruining my scores.
I've played a lot more vidya, and probably could have beaten a lot more if I hadn't played so much WoW, and replay games so often
