I can't even listen to podcasts when I play most games, with the exception being dungeon crawlers, 4x, and GS.

You must be playing the wrong games. Most games, especially World of Wowcraft, have shitty music that you want to turn down, and then the sound effects are lonely, so you start playing music. Eventually you get tired of music, and move onto shows.
