>"We've noticed in Fallout 4 that most people didn't enjoy playing the main quest. That was really eye opening because we thought players liked having a main objective in the game. So with that figured out we decided we're going to take a more Minecrafty approach with the next game, as in more exploration and building with less quests to get in the players way"

Source or blow it out your urethra.

Settlements triggered a strong desire to hoard and build shit which is what they were after, might be the only thing that really sold me on Fallout 4. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that model, I wasn't planning on going after my son anyway.

This is maybe 30 hours of playtime, not a lot.
>>
I wouldn't actually mind building, settlements etc, iin fallout 4 if they weren't such a crude, barebones, clunky, buggy mess of an aftertought tacked on.
>>
Why not just, you know. Make it a fucking rpg. No main quest where you are the big hero. Just a bunch of quests you can take that influence your standing and what factions respect or hate you. Then you can work forward to joining in the bigger picture as a minor character and work behind the scenes.

Why do they always insist on making the player the hero? Am I the only one that thinks a rpg would work the best if the player was just an unknown minor character that makes its own background and does whatever the fuck he likes?
>>
> they won't think of it as padding if we give them what they think they want.

Settlements weren't even well implemented.

Bethesda's audience has been increasing since the Oblivion. If they did something too complicated or intricate, their new players would be really freaked out.
That's why they keep adding superficial features that are easy to use as marketing buzzwords, instead of putting proper thought into the game.
>>
>building in a game where everything is filthy, worn out, and rusted

What's the point?
>>
>>345021943
Good. I'm sick of the bullshit stories they come up with.

>Fallout 4's story was just Fallout 3's story reversed
>Skyrim is a cliche story about le chosen one meme person who has to save the world from dragons
>>
>>345021943
I know this is false because Bethesda would never admit to a fault in their games, otherwise they would actually have to pretend to put some effort into them next time

it has nothing to do with it being scary for the players, and has everything to do with Bethesda not being smart enough to implement it. Their games barely work as they are

Or you could give the main questline a decent story.
(And some actual choices I've fapped to porn games with a more divergant storyline)

While OP's quote is indeed bullshit, Todd DID admit that the dialog system wasn't as great as they expected and they they fully took note of player disappointment in that regard.

Brilliant

Are you retarded? Are you just going to ignore the fist Elder Scrolls game that was marketed for it's good locking graphics and being best played on an console?
>>
>>345024565
Anon is right.
They know what they do.

The extra audience just isn't into complicated stuff like witcher 3.
They just want to play a game with whats hot around.

-weapon customization
-minecraft
-sims
-character sliders changed to "click and shape" gimmick.
-The game turned into a barebones shooter that plays more like Bioshock with perks and upgrades.

FO4 is all but what we were expecting : an open world RPG.
They just used the game and blend in all the hot stuff around they don't care about their classic audience anymore.

>being best played on an console?
No.
A simple fucking look at the UI and Inventory will remind you that it was meant for PC first, unlike Oblivion. That was also the last Elder Scrolls to sell better on PC at release. Since then, PC sale only keep up after a few years, when mods and successive Steam sale have done their marketing job.

It cost less money to recycle their owm engine than to pay for rights and royalty fees

I guess you are retarded then.

Surely after Skyrim and Fallout 4 they've made a bazillion dollars? That being said I have absolutely no idea how difficult/expensive it is to get a new engine built.

We can only wish. It would be badass.

Bethesda itself sees morrowind as an xbox game, according to Hines on some recent interview

I'm still waiting for a good RPFPS where attributes and skills heavily influence gunplay in a realistic way - fatigue, aim sway, trembling hands, recoil, draw, holster and reload speed, cleaning and maintenance. NOT GUN ACCURACY, NOT DAMAGE.
