I played it last year. It looked great, but was pretty meh overall. It was way too easy, aside from maybe one boss fight with the guy on the spinning tower. I don't exactly remember the story, but I recall that it made no sense to me at the time and never bothered to explain itself.

That's because Phantasia's reputation is all bark, no bite. The game devolves rather quickly into a mindless button masher where you push enemies to one end of the battle field and mash O ad nauseum. Oh sure, there's Artes and shit, but considering how long some of the dungeons are (Moria Mines, etc.), you kind of have to conserve AP for boss fights and stick to physical attacks. I got about 20 hours into the game and couldn't really understand the praise for the game.

the room system (were you will place your army) generates at random so, just keep close and enter it until you get the room you want.
dont just put random characters in the same room. some characters are better in close range than in mid or long range. put characters of the same classes together so they can pull of special attacks.
once you complete the first route and and start the second one, level your main to level 200-300 in the training room. its really simple. just look it up how to do it in GameFAQs. and get a army of demons to level up with the main charterer.
save up gig drives. they may come in handy.

It's a complete 1:1 remake, about as faithful as you can get. The updated designs for each of the characters look great, but otherwise you see is what you get.
I found it pretty easy but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. The combat is a bit clunky too but that's because it still retains the somewhat archaic combat system the original GB game had, but still is alright overall.

The remake gives you the option of mapping 3 different items/weapons/spells to the touchscreen to use at will, but you will still most likely still need to constantly swap items (since some enemies can only be killed with a specific weapon etc.). It's less annoying now.

I read the patch notes. I like the fact that the guy corrected evasions, but he changed it so that 1st classes cannot have max stats surpass that of 2nd. This is not really a good thing, it takes away freedom. It essentially forces players to change into the final classes. It actually adds about 30 min to an hour more to the grind in effect.

Tried playing Legend a year or so ago when it was 3 bucks on the PSN, but I just got bored of the gameplay. SD3 did most things better.
The only thing it really has going for it is the atmosphere/music, which is 11/10, but it's not enough to carry the game for me.

The reason why no one played it is because is got bad peer reviews.
And it got bad peer reviews because there's lots of morons who REALLY don't like having to seek out story content in their RPGs.
I mean look at the general recption to FF^'s WoR, or more recently to Xenoblade X. People simply don't do sidequests.
Also, it's kind of mechanically complicated, but not as much as say Vagrant Story and that game gets plenty of love.

Pic related is super underrated, especially for a Tales game. I literally never see it mentioned, ever. Didn't even know it existed until a few years ago. Got around to buying it last year and was really surprised.

Been meaning to play this and Terranigma, but the lack of any official rerelease makes it tricky. I have a hard time getting into games on an emulator, especially RPGs.

I loved all the sidequests that followed a characters story. Real fucking shame there's just about 0 main story though, just "hey time to go to the mana tree now I guess". One of my childhood favorites still.
