Ingress requires you to go to the specific stops to take part in much of anything.
Pokemon Go you can just walk around away from pokestops and still catch Pokemon.

On-topic: I think GO improved some aspects of Ingress, namely upgrades (high lvl pokemon) actually do something. But I worry about the direction Niantic is going with things: pokemon is getting updates every 2 weeks whereas the last ingress update was a month ago.
