Two questions
As a man down on my luck in the job scape, how easy would it be to torrent books and go and get some certs? I have always been the handy one with computers in my circle (literally just googling the problems people are having and fixing them like that) and took a year of class for it in HS, so I think there sould be something there
Second, I am on windows 10 and I cannot open any metro apps at all, what gives?

Literally just for opening photos. I could give two shits about any of the other ones, but when I get a nude from a cute girl in Skype, I'd rather it open in that than in paint.net

right click the photo you want to open, choose the default app as the windows photo viewer and not the metro app version.

How much of modern PC vidya is lazy devs not optimizing their game and just goes with whatever the latest GPU can run at a silky smooth 24fps?
>>
>>345001559
Not really all that much. I tested out a 1080 and bought one for my own computer at home. Hits 60 on almost all games at 4k. Additionally there is a lot of time spent optimizing when creating an engine for a game.

Upgrade your graphics card drivers. give that a shot. Make sure you are updating your latest whql drivers. Sometimes as well you should look at vram. Obviously if you're running 2gb VRAM modern games will run very choppy versus another card with 4-6gb vram due to textures.

All about availability. Obviously you have areas that are easier to wire than others or lack infrastructure. If you're in an area where the only thing wired is DSL, well guess what you are paying 50 a month for 2mbps speeds.

Windows 10 sucks because it forces three shitty things that ruin it as a gaming OS:

1) Forced desktop composition - permanent vsync on the desktop, and incompatibility with older games causing color issues (Diablo 2, Starcraft, Command and Conquer, etc)

2) Removal of true DirectDraw support - any old game that runs in software rendering will no longer perform properly. They have to be emulated, it is glitchy and runs like shit. You need to turn to wrappers like Aqrit's ddraw wrapper, and while they work, they're not as good as native DirectDraw API support that you get in Windows 7 and prior.

3) Forced Windows Updates - there have been numerous times over the course of history where Microsoft released glitchy, broken Windows updates. These updates break anything from rendering in certain DX10 games, to fucking up mouse control, to adding spyware to your system. Fuck forced updates.

For these reasons, I am happily back on Windows 7 running the classic theme with Aero (and desktop composition) disabled. My input lag is dropped into the single digits, and all my classic games just work as intended. The fact that Windows 10 will be required for future games and processors, is making me feel physically ill. They are killing off the old school ways of working on your PC, to create a more simplified, and less user-controlled environment. I am not looking forward to the next 5-10 years when Windows 7 becomes completely phased out and I am forced to upgrade to keep with the times.

I use windows 10. apart from it being incompatible due to windows 8.1 drivers on a now windows 10 machine, reinstalling the glitchy drivers with windows 10 fixed issues for me. Additionally I recommend using shit like dosbox which emulate old games very well. You dont need to be in the stone age.

But obviously, if you must have the reliability and don't trust yourself to do proper troubleshooting, stick with windows 7. Nothing wrong with it.

Already done that some time ago, I've been periodically cleaning up the fans. Laptop still freezes immediately after changing the ATI powerplay settings to maximum.

The issue started popping up after I had to replace my HDD though I fear I might've fried something (even though I'm not noticing any burn marks).

4k works on 1080 but not all games handle perfect 60. but if you don't mind fluctuations to 45 then go for it. There's only two options, maximize performance or charger longevity. Now that I mention it, I have received a windows popup informing me that I should consider replacing my charger. However, the freezing issue persists even when unplugged.

For more info, the issue is similar to what this post says:

https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/205wmk/laptop_freezing_with_power_play_set_to_maximize/

However, I don't know who manufactured my GPU (Speccy says Madison but I've never heard of something like that). I'd rather not tamper with the clocks if I can avoid it.

HTML is absolutely not a programming language. It's static. Like playing with leggos really.

and I'm just helping out my fellow /v/ tards as I do game a lot and it sucks to not have a pc working.

It's okay money. But it can be much better.

the problem is that it 'was' something and was changed to no longer show the high performance. I would modify this back by uninstalling the program that is associated.

Wondering if anyone could help with this. I recently moved and got new internet and shit.
Using this in my PC

And this router

Speedtest shows my ping as fine, but while playing games (dota 2, overwatch, battlefield) my ping jumps to as high as 800!
Any known fix?

I want to get better at programming. I'm confident with some of the basics and fundamentals but want to use and practice them. What projects should I work on as a beginner to get used to programming? I tried making a calculator but the windows forms code boggles my mind.

Not yet, I don't think its an issue with that though. My ps4 is connected by lan next to the router and its playing online perfectly fine.

Why does a game suddenly stop working or running badly when it was doing fine before?
