MGS1 was praised at the time for its story so you can't say it was "shit". MGS2 got a lot of flak but it certainly wasn't praised do to its horrible gameplay and MGS3 is still considered the best (subjectively) and it's not for the gameplay....for some reason people now to defend V are saying that MGS story was always shit but it was its main selling point, after all, the majority of V hype was all about the story.

My read was that there was more than one Snake, which kind of alludes to the main tweest of the game. The soviet killed one. Venom was visibly surprised by the second. There was no planning going on there. It was instinct, and his instinct was to protect Quiet.

Attempts to reach outside the core have met condemnation from said demographic. "Walking simulators", "non-games", "interactive movies", "click to win", etc.
Many of them believe gaming is their "turf" and they have to defend it from outsiders. I believe such nationalist-esque behaviour is preventing gaming from reaching new heights, new realms of innovation. Games should be a form of the human experience, not merely time-passers.
If gaming is to thrive, how can it thrive by endlessly circulating within a vacuum? We should expand beyond conventions, beyond tradition into the great unknown.
If video games are to stay great again, the medium must learn to leave its box.

It wasn't that much different from a point-and-click title or a visual novel.
You know why Souls titles resonate so well with people? Because it has no pretensions. You're dumped in the world, and left to figure the lore/story/gameplay tics out for yourself. Surprise, surprise, it's one of the greatest series in video game history.
