Not being able to use the original controller or at least any USB controller is a bit shit though.
>>

Its nintendo hardware, they don't NEED an emulator. This isnt a retron 5 we're talking about where it dumps data. this is the same tech as the VC.

bigger question is why would anyone pay for abandonware old games? I don't pay for my dos games, so why should people pay for old console games? Are people seriously this retarded? None of that money goes into making MORE of those GOOD games. You basically feeding the big execs that are ruining the industry in general, guys with stockbroker mentality.
>>
No way in hell they would let you use old carts.

-The people who will buy this wont want to fork over 100 bucks per game to human garbage on craigslist and ebay.
-Nintendo themselves wont be getting back into selling carts anytime soon
-It competes directly with VC so theres no way they will try to push it as a legitimate supported platform
>>
>>344995052
Why would you expect them to release their own IPs for free? They're a company, not a charity.

YOu're telling me if you had 10 year old games that you made, and people blindly worshipped them, you'd just give them out out of the goodness of your heart? Bullshit. You'd milk them out of every dollar because you could. You can preach this stuff as long as you're unaffected, but when push comes to shove, you'd do the exact same thing and think nothing of it.

Or you could be smart and just emulate them and every other NES game for free.
>>
>>344994113
>Its nintendo hardware, they don't NEED an emulator.
it is still emulation though, it is not using NES hardware.

>this is the same tech as the VC.
which, depending on who you ask, was still shit. And judging from the size and price i expect it to be worse than wii/wiiu VC emulation.

At least on the wii they gave you the option run it through an analog output at 240p so you could minimize that overall lag. this is going to be weaker or as weak hardware as the wii with only HDMI output. So if you're planning on playing this on anything other than a <10ms monitor, then yeah, expect a noticeable amount of lag.

>>344994735
>pay $0 and run the entire library on a toaster via HDMI output on a laptop and get the same/better results.

>>
>>344996208
Piracy is actually good for consumers. If you haven't noticed, the gaming industry has been full of big "sharks" who eat the small devs / studios with buyouts / layoffs and bad contracts. The less money you give to these corporate elite stockbroker kind of guys (not the same electronic arts people on early 90s), the longer you keep the current bubble afloat. The sooner this shit collapses the sooner the real gamers get to see some real games again, and not these "press F to perform X animation" or "rendering limited to 7 enemies on screen". Like seriously this shit triggers me so hard, when I see not even Crysis 1 (or BF2) has been surpassed in terms of online gameplay.
>>
>>344996574
>Piracy and breaking the law is okay because it means lesser devs will have their spotlights again, even though it is still PIRACY. AND BREAKING THE LAW.

Liscensing. Nintendo doesn't own the rights to re-distribute games made by other companies, only their own. Most of said companies have gone under in 20 years, and things like bomberman wont be a thing because of hudson/konami.

They probably got Capcom and Namco on board since they're all buddy buddy.
>>
>>344998990
I can understand the fact that there would be licensing difficulties, but even so, it really shouldn't be too hard to get at least 100 games on it, which is more than enough any nostalgiafag would realistically want for something like this.

They're selling games they have license for. They are selling games that are older than DOS games, and most DOS games don't sell anymore.

The games are older than PC abandonware, not worth paying for games THAT old. The money is not going for the devs at this point, and it certainly is not going to fundraiser for "making those same games in current year". You're basically paying someone because they have suits protecting something that would normally be free at this point. An entity / machine / big industry that's not good from gamers point of view.

At the same time, as someone who grew up with this shit and wants to start collecting it, all this attention that's currently being paid to retro gaming because it's "trendy" might benefit us in the long run.

I was at a local mom and pop shop recently, and so many of the NES and SNES cartridges they had were sun/smoke damaged, or had markings, or had shitty labels. The NES and SNES being sold were in horrible disrepair. Little stunts like this one that keep the interest in retro gaming alive might artificially inflate the prices of those units that are in fine shape, but it also might start getting some more nerds working to preserve them. We could start seeing more clone systems/controllers on the market, or at least completely refurbished systems with relabeled games in new print and the like. I'm all for that.

Nice strawman, retard. The only way that argument would make sense is if you could pick the 30 games on this system yourself.

As it is, the 30 games are going to be chock full of absolute filler shit like pacman and probably only have 5 games worth playing.

Come to think of it, I can barely think of 10 NES games I'd actually want to play again for free, let alone pay for.

Why can't they just do this with the SNES, include two controllers and fill it with 30 absolute classics? I suspect that would be way more popular.
>>
>>345007731
It's time to forget the past, or at least not pay current year money to buy something from the past

You can either play them on PC with emulator, or you can get some emulator for some other system from where to load roms. I think you can hack your wii or original xbox, or alternatively just hdmi cable to a TV.

That nindon't money is better spent either on a hooker or some other stuff. It's like you see an 1960's Blues recording "I gotta buy this because the record company insists this shit is still relevant" when you could listen to it on youtube for free or soulseek/torrent it.

Yeah you can download some dumped roms without paying a dime. Cool. Great even. I emulate too. But to say the games are worthless because of their age is as far as Im concerned extremely retarded. 8 bucks is nothing.
>>
>>345009248

>>
>>345009394
Because the 8 bucks is artificial price not based on the value of the item, but based on what the suits (company hires someone to take care of their games / try keep them viable) WANTS you to play. It's not market value, it's value someone with power wants the plebs/commoners to pay, when they don't care about their own games enough to make remastered versions of them of those who'd want one.
>>
>>345009778
>is not market value

Exactly, its better then. Do you really think Super metroid is worth less then $5 now just because of age? Even if there was a heavy abundance of it and stores still sold it, it would keep to the $10 price range since it was a good selling and well liked game. Its not inherently $1 just because its old. Rarity and price changing doesn't work that way. Not to mention inflation.

8.99 is pretty damn generous for what they could be charging, which would be 15+

I could care less about game collecting tho, so if a game is old it's not worth more than 1 or 2 bucks max. If new indie games (whom I fund directly, buying old game only funds the publisher / whoever is current license/rights holder) costs 10 bucks on steam, I see no reason why I would want to pay almost same price for a 20 year old game, especially when the money is not going to good cause/good address. Wallet and money is only language these big big big big corporations understand, and sooner the industry starts failing maybe we could start see rise of small game studios again (larger and regular indies, but much much smaller than AAA).

It sucks that this won't be able to play cartridges, but it is clear that this is Nintendo's way of combating scalpers that buy old games and then try to sell them for a lot more online.
>>

If people are buying it, then it is market value. That's the definition of market value: what people are paying for it.

You don't understand basic economics if you think that the market value is somehow a different price. It's SUPPLY and demand, not just demand and not just scarcity. Nintendo is willing to put out a product for $8, people are willing to buy a product for $8, and so the market price is $8. Sure, Nintendo could put it out for less, but they don't want to - either because it cost too much to create, or artificial restriction, or just wanting more money - and so they don't. It means the supply/demand hovers around $8, rather than $15 if they'd priced it that much, or $4 if they'd priced it that much.

Where on earth does this logic come from? Rephrase your sentence: "I don't want to pay more then 2 bucks for an old game" It isn't "Its not worth it." Worth is determined by the buyer. Just because YOU say something isnt worht it to you, doesn't mean someone else agrees. You are not the authority on video game pricing sir. And if you're going to bypass actual markup and inflation calculations for your shitty "justifications" then you need serious help you spoiled brat.

The only reason 20 yo cartridge games aren't 2 bux or free is because.. well cartridge. If it were CD you'd just burn it on CD and call it a day (like you'd do on PS1). Going behind this thinking that they're actually worth something today because they're in artificial closed system is fallacy.

Who is this even for? Everyone interested in NES games either emulates or has bought a system already. It would be one thing if you could play your own games but it's literally a closed system. Everything about it is a turn-off. Hardware enthusiasts won't like the fact that's it's digital. Game enthusiasts won't like that you can't use your own ROMs. Basically it's shit all around.

>>
>>345012487
>Who is this even for?
People who are interested in NES games, aren't interested in paying $300 for an original NES and games, and aren't interested in paying $200+ for a Wii U and game downloads. Or perhaps they don't have a CRT to play the original NES on.

Not everyone comes off 4chan and attempts to emulate everything.

One, the exact same game is available on GoG for $6. This is going to be available on the same system that most people would be playing the game on anyways, so there is no requirement for purchasing a new system to play the new release. This isn't like owning a NES and needing to purchase a Wii U in order to play the new eShop release. If you were going to play Crusader: No Regret, then you would be doing it on a PC... which can play the GoG Crusader: No Regret just as well.

Mind you, there might be people out there with Win98 computers and no internet access who the GoG version is of no value. Those people would prefer the CD/floppy version off Amazon. But those people are in the vast minority... and probably won't be buying off Amazon anyways.

Convenience is also a factor. The $6 GoG version is more desirable because it is easier to obtain, install, and run. The $2 Amazon physical copy is going to be more of a hassle.

So yes, that is an example of scarcity. Crusader: No Regret is not scarce. Crusader: No Regret on PC is not scarce. It is currently being sold for $6 and anyone who wants it for that price can pick the game up right now. This is different from a NES game, since even a digital re-release is not something which could be played on a NES. It would be two different markets on two different systems - although even then, you will notice the price of some cartridge games drop when a digital version becomes available.

Alternatively, buy a Retron 5. Which will also let you play SNES, Genesis, Famicom, GB, GBC and GBA games, and upscales them to 720p, and lets you use all the original controllers.

Or just buy a top-loading Retron 1 for like 20 bucks and get a flash-cart with the entire goddamn NES library on it.

NOPE.

Retron downloads your cart contents and dumps them into an emulator, it effectively erases cart data and runs the ROMS through its own shitty processing.
