Officially, Versus XIII was named that because it'd be thematically opposite to FFXIII (open world design instead of corridors, black theme color instead of white, grounded setting instead of super fantastic etc.). When it became a standalone title, the "Versus" part lost its meaning because it no longer had anything to do with FFXIII.

This box art convinced me that the game would end with Noctis and co. being deified as the leaders of the Knights of the Round and thereby being summoned by Cloud and anyone else capable summoning them.

Yes he is, he's totally going to be the main villain because he's the perfect counterpart to Noctis.

Both share connection to Luna as fiancee and brother. And you have Noctis, Luna and Ravus representing black, white and grey.
Fleuret literally means foil, Ravus is the foil to Noctis, and he also has a deep seated hatred for Regis and by extension Noctis.
He also tried on the ring of Lucii which is why his arm got fucked, he may have gained some sort of powers from that too.
He is also the one talking about the world ending in the 2013 trailer, referencing the plague of the stars which is Luna's job to actively stop.
Anyone thinking Ardyn is the main villain at this point is letting themselves fall for a red herring. He's just the chancellor of Niflheim and a decoy villain.
Ardyn = the Shinra of XV while Ravus = the Sephiroth of XV.
Ravus has a much more personal reason to be against Noctis as well as having a close connection to that of the main protagonist and heroine, Ardyn on the other hand is just someone from Niflheim that acts shrewdly.

Wait and see, Ravus will just be someone that will get drunk on power and in the end destroy himself, he will only be a pawn for Ardyn which will end up beign the final boss.
It's pretty obvious that Ravus is the kind of character that ends up regretting everything he did before his final moments.
The whole Ravus/Noctis/Luna dynamic is just an extension of the "there is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so" shit nomura was spoutin all tha time ago.
Ravus is not a villain and he is not a bad guy, just like Regis wasn't a bad guy for leavng him behind in your webm. Ravus is just misguided and he is bound to be used and discarded by Ardyn exactly because he let himself be consumed by feelings of revenge and hatred.

I honestly do not see Ardyn being anything more than a manipulator but not the big bad. Ravus is clearly a direct rival to Noctis in the same way that Seph was to Cloud.
In fact Ravus was the first villain we ever even saw for the game back during Versus days.

Ardyn seems to have an agenda, a bigger plan, something that he is hiding.
Ravus is just sasuke tier villain. The only thing that he can do to become a bit better as a character is if he kills Iedolas with his own hands and then try to ruin whatever Ardyn is planning.
Overall i just want him to showcase a bit of inteligence as a villain to make me accept him as one, as of now he is just a monkey, controlled by his childish emotions like a retard.
