Hey /v/ I hope you can help me out. I bought myself a 1070 and an i5 6600k.
So I am playing dark souls 3 and the GPU usage doesent go over 68.
I looked at my GPU usage in Dayz and I hit the 100% sometimes, see pic related. It goes up and down though, is that normal?
In Dark soul 3 I have 60 fps most of the time but sometimes it drops to 59/58 or even 56. I am playing at 1080p.
Why is this happening? I mean the fps wouldn´t fall down, if the GPU used 100%, right? I just changed to the master race and now this is really bugging me...
What is going on here?

Again, it's normal, unless you're only standing in one place and there's nothing moving in the background. I'm pretty sure it dips when you're moving around, right?

No there is nothing. I mean 60% usage is way too low even if there was something in the background, right?

DS3 is just really badly optimised. It was a mess at launch.
I remember people had trouble keeping 60 fps on frigging 970s while others were running at 60 fps maxed on old 580s just by using really old drivers.
I had no issues with it personally, ran it at 1440p on a single 980 and it almost never dipped below 60, so your 1070 shouldn't either.
Occasional dips down to 58 could be caused by anything, could just be a momentary stutter when loading something or whatever.
Low usage could be due to the frame limit.

Get something that forces the card to run in P0 state which is full power. Download multi-display power saver.

DS3 is using Vsync by default, if your GPU is strong enough, it won't just randomly start using power it doesn't need.

I guess it´s the framelimit just like some people said. I would probably have 60fps all the time at 1440p too. Unfortunately I have only a 1080p screen though

Because there would be no benefit in doing so, nothing would happen except increasing the powerdraw of your computer.
