Technically you only have to kill the Trees, but yea, doesn't help that their drops increase as you go through waves, Raven staff should hold you until Ayylium Staff as well.

Vehicles, mechs, pilotable boats, water pressure adjustment, an actual galaxy with tons of worlds to build stuff in, more dungeons, more decoration choices, quests, actual different playable races with unique dialogue and ships, more enemy variety, interesting biomes/dungeons/villages spawn more often making exploring much more fun, having an actual monster taming system, and the 3D Print scanner means you don't have to have chests cluttered with decoration and furniture. The problem with Starbound is there is no focus, it's essentially a game made by a bunch of "ideas" people, who come up with grand albeit unnecessary addition to the game when at its core there is nothing. The exploration is needless since all of the planets are the same 3 things taken from a list i.e a dungeon, a town, etc. There is no real progression in the later parts of the game (unless they changed it since last I played which to be honest was a couple months ago) that being said I remember there being like a few bosses in the earlier parts then afterwards it became a grind for better and better ore with no real goal.
Also the furniture and decorations are not handled well, there's way too many of it and storing it in your containers is terrible, they should have made it so furniture is free to copy from the printer since it's not like having 100 chairs will break the game.
On the topic of 3d printing it's stupid in that the cost for printing even the most mundane things is way too high, considering you lose a disproportional amount of money when you die, hell they even fucked up the banking system by making it so storing money costs money.
