What is /v/'s opinion on the Hotline Miami series?
>>344947865
Pretty good, good levels
>>344947865
Pretty good, triggered some hardcore autism and unwarranted love for what was a pretty bland era
I love the memes though

Nice quicky while it lasted.
The devs didn't know what they were doing.
Reminder he did nothing wrong

I want a school shooting level with that mask in refference to that one shooting in oregon from the frogposter in /r9k/
>>344947865
great surprise of a game
both are really fun games
the stories are simple, yet intriguing.
and the soundtracks are arguably some of the best in gaming.
>>344949748
Bland era? Literally what.Pardo posting is the best.
helps releive stress

1st game is 9/10
2nd game is 4/10 as a sequel, 7/10 if you play it as weird, top-down Doom
Gameplay: 1>2
Music: 2>1
>>344950563
4/10 is saying essentially the game isn't worth playing.
Its more like 5 or 6

Have to agree w/ these two.
HM1 was the first game I 100%ed. Music was one of the best soundtracks out there.
HM2 is the hardest thing to even complete both normal and on hard.
Quite a fun series overall. The first game was novel for its time and had a neat "masks give you powers" gimmick that didn't carry over for all of its levels. That stealth level should have been removed entirely, too, or at least got replaced with a hallucinatory escape sequence.
The second game I still like a lot, but I have some reservations on it. The music's better than the first game, and I like some of the character gimmicks like no-gun mode and non-lethal, but the level design is plagued with windows and an overload of gun-wielding enemies that snipe you beyond your range of vision.
>>344950979
>normal
Actually git gud though
>hard
Most obvious unfair bullshit I have seen in a video game. Beat it so I never have to do it again
>>344951139
>what is the shift key and also knowing where they are next time and shooting first
>>344947865
1 was amazing
2 had so much shit done wrong, especially the writing.
The gameplay was bullshit because you constantly died to off screen shit, and it basically made you use guns.
The story though, they flesh out a bunch of characters and a bunch of shit that happened just to end it with a big explosion? It felt like they were trying too hard to prove a point or meet an expectation fans had that "LOLSTORYDOESNTMATTRINHOTLINEMIAMI"
>>344947865
Hotline Miami 2 is better than the first game in almost every way. The people who say it sucks are just bad it.
>tfw born in the USA
First one is great, only felt like a couple levels were stupidly hard.
Second one is pretty good, a lot of more bullshit but adds a lot of good stuff.
Favourite game of all time, favourite soundtrack of all time, favourite story of all time.
I don't rate HM 1/2 as seperate entities, they're both equally as important as they are good if you ask me
>>344951267
>deadaheadonhard.jpg
That level has it all. Gun-wielding enemies behind windows, fat guys who will charge your position while you're being shot by the guys in the window, dogs that blindside you while you're Shift-aiming, and no ammo for your guns. I couldn't preserve a combo to save my life in that level.
First actually gave the feeling of being a psychotic mass murderer. Nothing like listening to nothing but static while looking at the mess of bodies and blood you've made.
Second one had better soundtrack but fuck windows and giganiggas.
>>344951226
Eh. Some levels like the one on the ship were both very hard. Also getting S or A+ is damn hard with HM2's AI.
>>344951432
I completely agree with you. I used to think Hotline Miami 2 was a disappointment after my first playthrough, but after my current forth run through and getting A+ on every level I'm finding the game way easier.
Its almost kind of like a Platinum game in a way. First time you play you get your shit kicked in, but after multiple playthroughs you start to master the mechanics and are now really fucking good at the game.
People honestly need to just get good.
Absolute garbage. One of the worst games I've ever played.
God tier games.
Shame that there will never be a third game and Midnight Animal got delayed forever.
Such a 90s kid XD.
>>344952972
They're set in the 1980's you fucking degenerate
>>344947865
1 is great, 2 is shit because it tried to do too much and it ended up with a ridiculous plot and very uneven gameplay, also pretty unbalanced
>>344951267
They were placed beyond shift's vision bonus. Also a lot of them had guns, its pretty much impossible to clear some levels without guns
>>344947865
Fun
>>344947865
Fun games.
But they gave me a bad case of eye strain.
>>344952969
>implying it won't get cancelled like Redial
>>344947865
Playing HM1 again after beating HM2 all I gotta say isholy fuck HM1 is pisseasy.
Also the unmasked characters in 2 are more fun to play than the masked characters in 2. Except Jake, had legitimately the funnest chapters in the game, hell his second one felt more like HM1 than any other HM2 chapter.
>>344954323
IT WONT!
>>344954395
That's becausepart of that level is a Hotline Miami 1 level.
>got my vinyl player so I can listen to the 2 OST that I've had for a while now
>HLM 1 vinyl coming next month
>Hotline Miami Wildlife comic is at a good start
>new Justice
Quite the time to be alive, lads.
>>344955282
Wildlife looked kinda cool. Gotta find it online... or, you know, buy it.
>>344955349
An anon was story timing it the other day. Check the archive. He'll probably be back with each new issue.
If only there was a Hotline Miami game with the better soundtrack of 2 and the better gameplay of 1.
>>344955552
Found it. Thank you, friendo.
Link if anyone else is interested
>>344713435
Hotline Miami 1 was GOAT
2 was still good but had some questionable game design
Both soundtracks are 10/10
Dennis posts here. Check game dev threads every now and then.
>>344953813
literally this
>>344955854
Message to Dennis:
Stop using the fame from Hotline Miami to jump start your shitty band. Just make Hotline Miami 3 to properly end the trilogy.
>>344947865
it's garbage. literal sub-nintendo gameplay.
cool music.
>>344955984
every character is literally dead. plus that would completely contradict the message of the second game. hlm2 is a sequel about sequels and how they are often pointless and disappointing and just a rehash of the previous game.
>>344947865
First was a genius game thats one of my favorites ever, second was bretty gud but no where on the level of the first one.
Post some good songs from the soundtrack.

Should have done the last level where Richard or "Jacket" survive the nuke thanks for being in prison.
He shouldn't have died. He wasn't near any cities (prison) so he should only worry about hte fallout which he can survive assuming he makes it to a fallout shelter.
>>344956425
Play Fallout and pretend that happened then.
1st game was pretty good, fun levels, some annoyances here and there, but over all a fun time killer and was a "try again and again till you got it" type of game, which can be annoying but was fun when you knew what the hell to do
2nd game showed some new mechanics, like the twins and the double uzi guy.
But My main issue was the focus on story and how it was a gumbled mess most of the time and dident connect, which was I thought it was gonna do but ended in a trip of ages. Gameplay wise it was the same but the little annoyances from the 1st REALLY FUCKING SHOWED. Why they thought long ass hallways and big open areas in a game with a limited viewpoint was a good idea is beyond fucking me.
Music is good in both.
>>344956208
>Devs make sequel
>Realize its pretty much a dumbed down version of the 1st game
>Make one fucking mess of a plot.
>Try to justify by saying "heh, we made it shit on purpose because sequels are really bad, goyims
I liked the story of HM2.
