While I love spacechem myself, the game is very much removed from how atom bonding works in reality.

It treats as though atoms can create and break bonds at their leisure, without any considerations to what exactly they're making. Sure, I'm not asking them to include such things as spins and such, but it's about the only setting they could use for their abstract gameplay idea.

I understand that part. What I don't understand is when to use what on who, when to block vs attack, when to make a move vs stay at a distance, how to react to their movements, what moves flow into what and how safe they are. I can do a quartercircle, that's not my issue.

But what is the purpose of half of the mechanics? It's like they stacked gimmicks on top of gimmicks for the actual core mechanics and then every character is a clusterfuck of different fighting styles. Are the combos supposed to be super easy? How much damage is optimal? At least with other fighting games you can get a good sense of where you're at.
