I just finished the first three games for the first time and want to talk about them.

SO what's /v/;s favourite ratchet game?

Is Qwark the biggest douchebag in gaming?

Is Lawrence the best sidekick?

Favourite guns?
>>

A crack on time is the best one
>>
>>344905237
That's the first one I played and beat. It was great. I got a platinum trophy.
>>
Qwark is well written character
>>
Am I the only person who thinks the gunplay in Jak was better, and that these games are mediocre.
>>
>>344905237
It's almost the worst, if it wasn't for those spin off ones.

And it's not nostalgia either, the original trilogy is ten times better than the rest. And To>D is also better than ACiT

There are more people with bad taste out there.

Going Commando is arguably the best

Nefarious is a pisspoor excuse for a villain. So is the Protopet but only marginally.

Rehash bandisloot, shy pooper, ratshit and stank, ballsac and haxtar, isharted and so many other shitty franchises are complete ass and the only reason anyone thinks they're anything close to not the functional equivalent of a heaping mound of garbage is because they were the few games that took more than 20 minutes to beat among the mountain of shovel ware shit that got dumped on the wobbleststion 2 which is all you played with when you were kids because your family was to fucking poor to buy anything other than some two bit nip cuck mediocre DVD player

So has anyone else here been playing Song of the Deep? Looking at the archives it seems like one or two people have tried to get some discussion on the game going, but no interest thus far. I'm only a few hours in but I like it so far, though the physics can be awkward at times and there is far more lag than a game like this should have.

Jak 2 and 3 actually had really solid combat and gunplay, but I always preferred R&C. Never played the first Jak and I never managed to finish any of them, so there's that.

Never understood the bitching over Jak 2, shit's fun.

>>344908976
Going Commando was a lot of fun. Something about Up your Arsenal just wasn't as fun but it was still great.

Ratchet 1 was like okay, the addition of strafing took the series and made it godlike though.

1st needed some gameplay refinement, and better physics for every vehicle you use. Otherwise, very playable, especially if you don't act like a lazy bum and master side flipping.

2nd needed polishing and better ship physics. Some cutscenes would not trigger/play on repeat playthroughs, and that is pure undiluted bullshit.

3rd was the most polished, but at the same time the most stripped down for variety, as well as removing the need to actually move around a bolt crank (because the devs wanted to simplify absolutely everything for babbies). They did fix the lava gun though, so there's that.
>>
>>344912908
I played Jak 2 first. Jak 1 felt boring, empty, and repetitive compared to the first.
>>
>>344906062
>the worst one
Supreme nostalgia. A crack in time improved on almost everything from the ps2 games.
>>
>>344913108
2 felt like a generic gta ripoff. 1 felt like a crash bandicoot game and those are my favorite.
>>
Crack in Time is fucking garbage.
ToD and Nexus are superior ps3 Ratchets.
>>
>>344913639
Explain?
>>
>>344912952
1 felt kinda mediocre honestly, 2 felt like a 100% improvement over 1 and was crazy good. 3 felt a little worse, and the multiplayer focus was odd.
>>
I wish We'd circle back around to platformers and get away from fps for a while
>>
>>344913476
That is your opinion, and you can have it.

Jak 2 is a better package. That is MY opinion, and I will keep it.

3 is the best. 2 has more variety but it also has some of the worst parts in the entire series.

Tools of Destruction, Crack in Time, and into the Nexus are alright, but they have kind of an awkward tone trying to be some epic space opera about furry James Arnold Taylor shooting aliens with silly guns.

The reboot is fun to play, but pretty much all the game's personality has been sucked out to be more in line with the movie.
>>
>Favorite Game
Going Commando or Up Your Arsenal
Can't really pick because they did some things better, but are ultimately super fun

>Is Qwark a Fag?
Yes, not worst of all time though

>Is Lawrence the best sidekick
GOAT, indisputable

>Favorite Guns
Seeker Gun, Hunter Mine Launcher

Deadlocked is skipped over a lot because it's not original trilogy or whatever, but there were plenty of great moments. If there was ever a series I regret being un-emulate-able it's this one.

Out of the PS2 trilogy most people say UYA is better but GC is something I preferred. I guess something to do with the weapon creativity and diverse environments. UYA had better content overall I guess, but GC had a better handle on fundamentals to me.

This.

Ratchet a cute
>>
>>344915187
Some people like to exaggerate hard parts of games online.
>>
>>344915187
The mech boss fight was literally just 'shoot him with the turrets until he's dead'.
You see, the problem was that he had a ridiculous amount of health. The fight lasted like, 15 fucking minutes for me.
>>
>>344915187
Its not an issue its just a fucking long, uninspired, monotonous fight.
>>
>>344905107
>SO what's /v/;s favourite ratchet game?
Deadlocked is my personal favorite although I really enjoyed GC, UYA and Crack in Time

There are worse villains, but he's certainly the biggest douchebag of them all
>Is Lawrence the best sidekick?
I prefer Skid

Bouncer

>replace Drek's perfect voice with a new shitty one

>>344916008
Changing the eyes on robots and blargians, using the same future weapons instead of the classics (I wanted the tesla claw so bad), and cutting a few levels were not the best moves for the remake. Nefarious should have just been hinted as a background character with creepy motives, not the main villain... again. Otherwise I did enjoy the game.
>>
>>344916937
It was the first R&C game to really employ sloped ground. Most people did not notice, but I did. Many levels weren't just flat surfaces with objects on them; Deadlocked levels felt a little more organic at the ground level, very much like TOD.
>>
Anyone else notice that Darla Gratch had Jaunita's character model?

And that they fucked it up by giving her flesh colored and giving her irises?
>>
>>344917097
>the robots in R&C

Those are my fetish. I think it's the eyes and joints.
>>
>>344917339
Deadlocked doesn't get the love it deserves. If you play through it with a buddy it becomes not only super fun, but a race to see who can lag out the game more.

is rachet and clank or jak and daxter still worth playing if you dont have any nostalgia for them? They're one of those games that I used to look with nail biting envy at as a kid because I never owned that generation of consoles but now that I do I've never played them
>>
>>344917491
You can blame the shitty fucking studio making the film for that
Glad the movie bombed while the game was a big success, now they won't ruin Sly Cooper
>>
>>344917659
I can easily recommend the Ratchet and Clank games on PS2, as for Jak, skip 2
>>
>>344917659
Skip jak 2 and 3. They can be frustrating.
>>
>>344917659
Ratchet & Clank is worth it since each game has its own variety of weapons. Sure each game has its own rocket launcher and grenade weapons, but the variety is arguably better than the Future games. The arena in the second game has yet to be topped in the series. The controls get better after the first game. The HD Collection on PS3 is buggy. Not unplayable, but it's noticeable on occasion.

Jak & Daxter, I would at least play the first game. It's a charming if easy platformer, but once you get in to the second game they start dropping all this story on you. While the story isn't inherently bad, it can seem a little edgy. Also if you've gotten too cozy with how simplistic the first game was, then the second game will for sure ram its barbed cock right up your ass.
>>
>>344917659
I believe there's an HD collection for the first three R&C games. Jak 1 is great, 2 is hit and miss, and 3 is solid.
>>
>>344917613
Deadlocked was also the first game where they stopped caring for frame rate drops. That aspect was fun.
>>
>>344918450
>thats what happened to me. I bought the collection and played the first and loved it. The second and third were such a let down.
>>
>>344917659
That is some bullshit logic.

If you need nostalgia to enjoy a game, how do people enjoy games in the first place?
>>
>>344918595
Some people need to feel a bit of nostalgia, whether it be tied to the way a genre used to be or whatever, to overlook outdated aspects of older games.

I played Final Fantasy IV for the first time a few weeks ago. I could appreciate it for what it was, but I understand it'd be easier to slog through if I had played other SNES RPGs back in the day.

Fuck the encounter rates and big bang holy crap I swear...
