Thing is, Cross Counter is clearly a pretty successful business or Gooey would stick to US majors and not spend egregious amounts of money travelling around. It's more than he doesn't want to be a personality and wants to be a player, he's in a similar spot to Daigo, but obviously was never dominant like Daigo is, and is now still much weaker than Daigo. That said, you can see that Daigo is now more of a teacher/talking head than a serious competitor, but still hasn't given up competing. Compare that to Mike Ross, who chose to go on a Capcom payroll over continuously competing. I'm sure Gootecks could do the same, he's probably fine with just Cross Counter, but he wishes he could be a serious player still.
Is Justin America's only hope? Even then, it seems slim. He hasn't been able to beat Tokido or Infiltration.

i wouldn't worry about "unknown ibuki setups" when you can't exactly claim to know every thing about fighting vega, or laura, or anyone else really, people are only just getting there. mika is still causing some problems and she was the first to have all her setups explored and abused.
