Thoughts on high refresh rate monitors? Is it worst going above 60fps?

Thoughts on high refresh rate monitors? Is it worst going above 60fps?
>>
Its good, but you'll have to have a serious rig to play games at stable 120/144 fps, and even then you'll quickly forget you're above 60, unlike 30

I recommend you stay on 60 fps
>>
I have a 144hz monitor and it looks good but a few games I've played lock at 60fps but I've only encountered a few like that. For movies and animation I'd go with svp to utilize your monitor for videos
>>
>60 fps looks like utter shit now.
I have spoiled myself.
>>
>>344874660
>I recommend you stay on 60 fps
I would since fighting games are my favourite genre but I wanna get back into PC shooters since none of the console ones are that good anymore and I've had prior experience with Quake, Counter Strike and Unreal at 60fps.
>>
I got a 144hz monitor and let me tell you, shitposting on /v/ has never looked this smooth.

God's work, son.
>>
You'll never want to go back to 60hz

It's a whole new world of smooth
>>

go 1440p first
decent games can't even run that high, not to mention you get more screen realestate for general use
>>
Isn't 120Hz better so that you don't get microstutter in games locked to 30 or 60 due to frame count?
>>
120/144 is god tier, best upgrade after a good gpu you can make imo. the difference is day and night
>>
yes if you shop around.
>>
>>344876454
You can adjust the refresh rate on these monitors. If you're playing a console port, change the max refresh rate to 60 and you're solid.
>>
Pretty pointless unless you plan on doing """""compettitive""""""" shit, but if you got the money and the rig, might as well just buy one.
>>
144hz is nice, but not worth the money. You get used to it and after a time it just feels like 60fps. You'll notice the difference once you go back to actual 60fps.

Also, it's difficult to get up to 144fps, especially in 1440p. Don't even try with anything than 290X CF or above or 980 SLI and above.
>>
I heard 120/144hz screws picture quality or something? So there is a downside to 120/144hz?

Maybe that anon meant you can't have nice picture quality and high hz for a decent price.
>>
>>344874908
Shooters, especially arena shooters, will benefit a lot from the extra fps. I've actually felt a considerable improvement in my twitch aiming abilities after buying a 144hz monitor. Moreover, aiming just feels more natural. Provided you have a decent mouse, of course.
>>
>>344877818
Even the 1k IPS displays have crazy IPS glow, even worse then korean panels.

You'll be fine with TN panels but the colors aren't that great compared to IPS.
>>
>>344877818
>I heard 120/144hz screws picture quality or something?
No? Or are you referring to the fact that 144hz IPS monitors are less common/much more expensive than 60hz IPS. Either way, the TN panels look about the same. I literally have 2 asus TN panels right next to eachother, one a 144hz, the other 60hz. They look almost identical except for very slight color differences. Neither is better than the other.

Listen to this man/woman/AI construct.
>>
>>344877362
Neat, thanks.
>>
I was thinking of getting a 144hz monitor since I'm making a much better pc in a while anyway, but this is also partly since I've read that the delay can be down to 1ms which requires a monitor capable of of 120/144hz and that it "feels" much better.

Don't know how much better it actually feels though, never used a 144hz 1ms delay monitor.
>>
I have a 1440p 1ms 144hz monitor.

Last week I had some issues so I sent it to replace it for a new one.

I have a backup 1080p 60hz which I´m currently using.

I can´t play anything, as the lower refresh rate makes me sick for real.
The screen is so small, the resolution feels blurry.
I don´t have free space on the screen, I have to maximize every fucking program.
The colors are supposed to be better as IPS > TN but I feel like they are even worse on this one. Probably config issues.

I won´t get the new one until friday. I´ll be hanged by then.

So browser text is smaller as well on 1440p?
>tfw when bad eyes and probably won't be able to read anything
>>
Another thing to note is to never listen to fags who say "DON'T BOTHER CUZ U WON'T REACH 140FPS" or whatever dumb shit they say in between guzzling semen. Even 75fps is an improvement over 60fps and it all depends on what games you play or how powerful your PC is anyway.
>>
>>344880047
Bruh you can adjust browser text any time.
Try it right now: hold CTRL and run your scroll wheel up.

Find a size you like and set it as default in you browser preferences.
>>
Do you have money to spend?
Go ahead then.
>>
Only really worth it if you're an MLG PRO GAMER CS:GO tryhard. Most other games are usually locked to 60 or too intensive to run over 60 anyway, the loss in image quality isn't worth it.
>>
I recently got a 2411z.. upgraded from an asus IPS (forget which model but it was 1080 60hz). Everyone always warns you about colors and viewing angels when it comes to TN but I haven't found either to be an issue. Spent about 10 minutes in config and it had far exceeded my expectations.

I think it depends which games you play and whether you prefer higher resolution or resfresh rate. I run everything fine at 1080 with a meme 970. You can easily switch back to 60hz for locked games. Screenot tearing had been unnoticeable in everything I've tried.

>the loss in image quality
what?
>>
>>344882883
if you play/replay a lot of older games (personally I do) its worth it and most of them run at 144hz just fine
>>344883329
I assume due to lowering quality to achieve such a high framerate
>>
>>344875558
Do phones get 144hz? cause shit posting using a computer is for low life neets.
>>
>>344874457
I went 4k at 60hz on a 40 inch monitor.

I don't regret it.
>>
>>344883135
Speaking of this is there any disadvantage to going for an IPS 144hz monitor? is 4ms such a big difference?

once you get a high refresh monitor you will never want to go back

Fucking faggots, get actually useful gaming gear, however are you going to rest in winter when you don't have proper gaming blankets to stay warm and comfy?

I like it.

It means graphics will stagnate as autists keep spending more and more money on higher framerates/resolutions while I sit pretty @1080p/60fps for the next five years.
