Hello STALKERs!

I have found a rare artifact! We shall all be up to our tits in vodka and canned food, once I figure out how the hell we get it out and sell it without dying

easy, we take the hoverboot and a pocket of bolts!

This thing might have been dangerous 30 years ago, I doubt it holds much danger now though. I know they bricked that whole area off and filled it with concrete, but radioactive shit doesn't stay dangerously radioactive for very long.

It's melted nuclear fuel (idk chernobyl used, probably uranium pellets) mixed with melted boiler vessel

>>344875545
It's still deadly, but it's not as deadly as it was 30 years ago.

It also wouldn't kill you instantly, even back during the actual accident. You'd live perhaps a few hours/days/weeks, give or take how far away you were when you looked at it (inverse square law)

p.s. I play as an engineer in ss13, I know lots about nuclear reactors ama

they already measured exposure level and know how long he can stay there before being dead/sick

and a proper lead helmet is heavy as fuck and would get in the way

the silver shit he's wearing isn't really offering much protection against gamma either desu, but the most important thing is that he's got that respirator on so he doesn't breathe himself a lungful of alpha or beta particles

A lot of the people working with it were ignorant to how dangerous it actually was. The higherups knew, however. There are documentaries showing the cleanup crew of this mess, many soldiers, being offered military leave if they spent something like two minutes each removing as much radioactive debris as they could from the rooftop of the building, and presumably the rest of the building.

>>
>>344876587
No, your body has a lot of mechanisms in place to cause apoptosis (and thus stop cancer/tumors)

radiation can damage these protective systems, but at high doses you're going to be falling apart at a molecular level long before your cells ever get the chance to grow out of control

There is a difference in what they do and how they work, but bethesda's way fucking off on how the world would look after nuclear war

assuming there's no nuclear winter (which carl sagan extensively embellished in order to urge the US government away from starting a nuclear war with russia)

the radiation disappears relatively quickly - it's only pretty dangerous for ~2 months, and it's only the first 2 weeks where it's "never go outside if you can help it" tier

Rather than a wasteland of dead everything, it'd look just like chernobyl does today: overgrowth everywhere and plenty of relatively healthy plants and animals with higher rates of mutations than normal

bethesda really has no fucking clue what they're doing desu, the'yre just incompetent as shit

The material was dubbed “corium,” after the part of the reactor that spawned it. Over time, the Elephant’s Foot decomposed. It puffed dust and its surface cracked. But for years it remained too dangerous to approach.
>>
>>344876435
There are degrees of radiation poisoning.
Your body can handle light amount, but you may get cancer decades later.

With a medium amount of poisoning, the biggest threat is dying to some random infection or sepsis because it destroys your white red cells and temporarily you lose your immune system. Treatment can help a ton here, antibiotics and shit.

With a large dose we can't do anything since all of your organs get damaged so badly that they will stop functioning. You would need regeneration magic, or cellular level healing with nanomachines or something.

Doco is called A slow death: 83 days of radiation sickness. It's about a man that was kept alive despite a lethal dose of radiation, under the pretense they were trying to save him. All signs point towards them using him for research in to the effects of radiation upon the human body however, it's a very sickening read but well worth it.

>>344877918

The dose of the radiation he got was so strong it knocked the programming out of the cells in his body. So it didn't know how to eat, how to drink, how to breathe.

Also other important stuff like how to hold ihs body together as his skin was literally peeled off, with organs failing and collapsing. The fucker went into a coma because of how painful it was, and doctors kept him alive for 83 days in order just to study how radiation affects the body.

Radiation is hands down one of the scariest goddamn things on the planet.

>What you’re seeing is the wasted body of 35 year old Hiroshi Ouchi, who had suffered a terrible accident at the uranium reprocessing facility in Tokaimura, northeast of Tokyo where he had worked, on 30 September 1999. The cause of the accident was the depositing of a uranyl nitrate solution, which contained roughly 16.6kg of uranium, into a precipitation tank, exceeding its critical mass. Three workers were exposed to incredible amounts of the most powerful type of radiation in the form of neutron beams.

>The micro-second those beams shot through his body, Ouchi was a dead man. The radiation completely destroyed the chromosomes in his body.

>According to a book written by NHK-TV called A Slow Death: 83 Days of Radiation Sickness, when arriving at the University of Tokyo Hospital Emergency Room, Mr Ouchi appeared relatively well for someone that had just been subjected to mind blowing levels of radiation, and was even able to converse with doctors.

>That is, until his skin started falling off.

>As the radiation in his body began to break down the chromosomes within his cells, Ouchi’s condition worsened. And then some.

>Ouchi was kept alive over a period of 3 months as his skin blackened and blistered and began to sluice off his body. His internal organs failed and he lost a jaw-dropping 20 litres of bodily fluids a day. I'm happy to say, he was kept in a medical coma for most of this time.

What pisses me off about this shit is that things like this are almost always caused by human negligence. Modern reactor designs are goddamn retard-proof because people kept making idiotic mistakes. But that also means that nuclear power is safer, cleaner, and more efficient than any other form of energy we have. Of course, the retards that got us to this point are the same kind of retards who would never understand that, so people still see nuclear reactors as inevitable death and are too spooped to let us have what is basically free energy.

fukushima was safe the day of the accident

it got blown way out of proportion by a fearmongering lugenpresse

okay so basically what happened is two reactors lost cooling, boiled off their remaining coolant, and then partially melted through the reactor/boiler vessel and into the containment vessel

this process produced a bunch of tritium gas (hydrogen) which built up inside the building because the ventilation system wasn't working

static electricity exploded this shit and then all the rest of the tritium got released into the atmosphere where it floated off into space because that's what hydrogen does

next it turned out there were cracks in the concrete containment vessel because of the earthquake and tiny amounts of radioactive material was leeching into the water table and out into the ocean where it immediately diluted to fuck all

the only 'dangerous' place in this entire bullshit was inside and around the reactor buildings, but this just meant you had to be careful with your exposure so you didn't spend more than say 8 hours inside the building or whatever.

outside the plant - fuck all radiation. Literally. You've probably seen big scary numbers on dosimeters or whatever the fuck, but it's all manipulative lugenpresse in action. There are places where people live with several times higher background radiation than existed and exists in fukushima.

There are still people living in fukushima because it's completely fucking safe, the japanese government overreacted enormously

No matter how worthless you are, no matter how bleak your prospects may be, at least you're not going to suffer a lethal dose of radiation and then artificially kept alive for 3 months while doctors and scientists research your condition as you painfully wait for the inevitable end while agonizing over the lifeless husk you've become.

True story: my dad was on the debate team in college and was on his way to the Navy to serve on a nuclear submarine. They won every debate they participated in except for one. The one they lost was about whether nuclear energy should be pursued. They were pro-nuclear. They had debated the topic several times already and had won every other debate. The one they lost was because the judge, and I quote, "didn't think it was safe". He literally ignored everything they said and ruled in favor of the anti-nuclear position purely out of personal opinion. Which, if you didn't know, is not how debates work.

Another fun fact: the submarine my dad served on had such an enormous arsenal that if it had seceded from the US, it would have been the sixth-largest nuclear power in the world.

Because super mutants are not made by radiation, they are created through a process that The Master perfected with his modified F.E.V virus that he stumbled across in a military base.
Well he didn't stumble across it, he was knocked into a vat of it and came out a blob that fused with the computer system.
His first few attempts were so awful that he just killed them.
Floaters and Centaurs are other examples of what happens when you get dipped, the process wasn't foolproof.
You also needed people untouched by radiation or the super mutants would come out retarded, that's why he wanted your vault so bad.

Only downside is that super mutants are sterile.

But who gives a shit about lore right?
