I fuckin hate Miyamoto but I also never really rated the Donkey Kong Country games. They definitely did feel quite bland in their platforming, I don't think Rare really came into their own until 3D platforming happened. Plus I think pre-rendered 3D has all aged atrociously so it gets even less points from me in the present day than it did back when it released.

Pre-rendered 3D looks like shit now but if you were around back then you'd remember just how fucking mindblowing people found the graphics of DKC, especially for the SNES (Playstation was just barely new in Japan as far as I remember). Reviewers were sucking Rare's collective dick over the graphics, everybody and their kid sister was talking about it.
Granted, games like Yoshi's Island had visuals that aged much better but Donkey Kong Country only looks shit in retrospect - in the moment, it was the best thing since sliced bread.
