Oh come on I've played both MGS3 and MGSV and it seemed obvious that MGSV was a significant improvement. Especially in terms of gameplay. Although it did seem as though the game just abruptly... ended. Perhaps the most anti-climactic thing ever. Of the last two missions that I remember one was just your run-of-the-mill go blow up some tanks. There was also a ludicrous amount of padding samey missions. Is this why you like MGS 3 more? CDPR couldn't make a good RPG even if their lives depended on it, as they do not understand, that a good RPG needs multi-solution quests that can be completed in different ways based on your stats/skills/perks.
The most recent actually good RPGs released were Underrail and Age Of Decadence, everything else is literal dogshit when it comes to actual role-playing, including Pillars Of Shit and Original Sin.

First of all, C&C alone do not make a game a RPG, because if they did, then VNs would be the best RPGs ever. C&C make any game better, be it a shooter or a horror game, because the presence of C&C is inherently a good design choice that adds depth to the game.
What makes a game a RPG is the opening and closing of various game paths based on the role of your character, which, in turn, is defined by the various character attributes: skills/stats/perks/whatever. This is usually implemented through multi-solution quests, where you can choose or are simply forced into different solution methods based on how you've built character.
The Witcher games do not have this, the only thing your character build affects is combat efficiency and, therefore, the Witcher games are shit RPGs.
Now, look at AoD: it has BOTH shitloads of C&C, where you simply choose different ways to progres regardless of your character build, AND multi-solution quests, where your solution methods depend on your character build. Therefore, AoD is a good RPG.
You can argue that Witcher games are good games and they arguably are, but their dogshit RPGs and any Witcherdrones claiming otherwise should literally hang themselves.

Most of the "?"s on the map are run of the mill bandit camps and monster nests - both of which outstay their welcome incredibly fast.
The sidequests they do put out in the world mostly consist of "Ayyyy this monster's been eating us please help us! We'll pay you 200 gold and give you a sword that is completely shit!"
And that almost every quest in the game involves you holding down the detective senses button and following a trail/scent that leads to a monster which isn't very fun to fight because the combat is pretty bad. Starts off hard but as you level up it becomes trivial to dispatch everything, causing you to tune out and neglect most of your arsenal.
Also you'll neglect most of your shit anyway - you've got 2 slots for bombs, a crossbow that requires you to go into the menu to change ammo types, and a fuck-ton of potions but you've only 4 slots to bind them to.
Not even gonna touch signs.

Not even gonna argue for Witcher being a good RPG, I generally agree with you on that count. It's a great game but it's not much of an RPG.
Problem with AoD is that it has no mechanics for non-violent resolution beyond if skill >= skillcheck. Hell, non-violent resolutions don't even include any proper legwork where one could fuck up by missing out on clues and such. You just go from start to finish and pump points into your desired stat. Much like in a VN, there's no challenge for the player, you're just reading dialogue along the way and clicking next. Played as a non-combatant, it works exactly like one of those ChoiceScript games.
Good looking game tho, just dled it now.
