Why? PSU was a fucking bust and they didn't even bother to release PSO2 in burgerland

As much as I loved PSO, you're wrong about PSU. That game had a lot of content added to it with the expansion.

I wish I could play PSO2. It looks interesting.
>>
>>344867182
The expansion was far too late. Single player campaign was awful, the weapon element system wasn't good, breaking your weapons while grinding them just added to the grind, missions dropping you off at different locations didn't work, I could go on. I really wanted to love PSU but it wasn't good.

>>
>>344867403
I did, and it bored me to tears. They replaced MAGs with that shit robot that just further enhanced the grind instead of being useful or interesting. The only good things about that game were the graphics (for the time) and the lobby actually being a city

Not him. I haven't played this game since 2014/early 2015, but I remember there being the standard english patch with two additional download options; Story Patch and Item Translation which I believe worked through the pso2tweaker or something.
>>
>>344867745
I haven't been able to activate an account properly. I did my best to follow the vg guide, but something goes wrong after the captcha.
>>
>>344862571
Combat is really basic.
Basically a weapon can do one combo and that's it.
At best you get a nice special effect.

Wherease a rifle in PSO2 can act like a shotgun, a sniper, an automatic rifle or a grenade launcher at the same time.

It's arguable whether the writing was better or not, but the atmosphere and setting were a million times better, even compared to vanilla PSO2 - before it was invaded by all the anime and game crossover content and had fucking J-pop idol concerts.
>>
>>344868673

There was some vague chance that it was in the same world as PSO, or at least an alternate timeline or something.

They've thrown that shit all out the window though with Ep4. Nothing is sacred, the next update coming is in literally Las Vegas where the boss is the statue of liberty riding a sphinx. The last one was in Tokyo and you found a hydra made of trains.

Don't kid yourself, it was always shit. Been here since beta.

>I wish I could play PSO2. It looks interesting.

Here, lemme sum it up for you:

>You grind to 75 (either main and subclass or all classes) and grind your mag to 200
>You grind money to upgrade your shit by doing daily orders and/or time attack orders
>You get decent 13* weapons from collection files
>You join MPAs and steamroll through everything unless you're a shitter with shit gear like the rest of your party
>Once you've got the best gear all you can do is grind money for future upgrades or costumes

Pic related for the last part.
>>
>>344870214

>>
>>344870161
Sierra has some theories about it during the main story board events. Nothing has been explained clearly yet, but the one thing repeated over and over throughout is that you are literally not in a videogame.
>>
>>344870361
The drop rates got fixed literally the day after. Suddenly you get the fire gem stuff at a reasonable amount to not have to grind a year to break from 4 star to 5 star gear. The pricebox custome spam stopped. New stuff was added rather quickly with slime coins and the casino.

You know as much as I love PSO I've NEVER gotten a character to lv200. Got to like 189 on DC PSO and I think around the same level on Schthack private server. The grind is just too much. Love the shit out of the games though and probably played them off and on for like 12 years or so. PSO 2 is okay and I might pick it up again but we'll never have another PSO ever again and that makes me sad.

There will always be a private server somewhere, but it's no substitute for the split screen co-op on gamecube. This game epitomized my teenage years as a budding young weeaboo. I miss those days, but they're long gone now. Even if I had many friends, none of them would probably like the game unless it was a part of their childhood, and it's too much of a commitment to even get one person into it. And after all that, it's still hard enough in it's own right to coordinate 4 grown ass adults to hang out and play vidya together at home, let alone on a regular basis in an RPG where you play for hundreds of hours. I ache knowing I will never have that experience again.

Same here buddy, Ep1 wasn't bad and Ep2 was actually pretty decent. Hell even Harukotan was pretty cool just as concept but it was a little weird to just be fighting some random other unrelated ancient evil that happened to be lurking around.

Costumes are basically the end game. This is the best character customization game out there currently barring heavily modded Bethesda trash. Just so happens to have a moderately fun game attached to it too.

>>344870518
> but the one thing repeated over and over throughout is that you are literally not in a videogame.
That's called character perspective. She's not an out of character narrator, she's a character in her own universe who lived her whole life as not a video game character, so the concept would be pretty hard to grasp for someone like that right?

Ask Hitsugi instead, she would tell you a freakish robot popped out of her video game to fight monsters that suddenly showed up in her world, and then she got pulled into her fucking video game somehow.

Then again I highly doubt Sega is competent enough at writing to take something like character perspective into account.
>>
is there a widescreen patch for psobb?
>>
>>344871029

Traditional shooters don't tend to rely on character stats or player activated skills (PAs etc.). It's just guns and nades. That's the point of contention here. It doesn't feel like a traditional shooter, and it's most certainly not a traditional shooter, so playing it in TPS mode feels off.
>>
>>344870658
It's connected to Mother, Ether, investigation of the fate of photoners - things that at best had some vague hints about what they even are, left alone how they work. You know, because the episode that is supposed to last for over a year has barely started.

In absence of solid plot reason why you aren't in a videogame, you could explain how you are in a game when it's the one of the few things that have been confirmed that you aren't.

they have yet to do anything worthwhile. so far the only thing thats happened is a small amount boring old 5$ cash-only box shit got reissued but now you can open the boxes with about 2$ worth of crowns. so look forward to more old shit that nobody wanted the first time round, and of course the things everyone really want will still be 1% of 5$ cash-only boxes like usual.

they'll never fix the actual problems, you know, the ones that crashed their old company and made staff leave to work on their own multi million game

The game itself doesn't hold very well (The MH series is essentially it's successor with better everything) but if you like PSO you'll like the private servers.

Ephinea is essentially the official server because it's the most vanilla and stable one out there, although it does have a few minor QoL improvements.

Ultima looks good if you want something with a completely different end-game (custom enemies/weapons with ridiculous stats that make vanilla enemies & weapons not shit)

>>344881090
It became a NEETbait money printing machine. While the base combat and such is technically better, it's so fucking piss easy it's boring. All new 'content' is also easy as fuck or just a shitload of collaborations with various trash animes to siphon money from people.

Let's not fucking mention the fact that their newest area in the game is TOKYO. ON EARTH. And the enemies? Fucking tanks, dinosaurs, birds, steamrollers, helecopters, a fucking train, yakuza members, rats, bears... it's a huge fucking shitshow. The new story quest is the worst I've seen in a game in recent times. The new 'emergency quest' they added LITERALLY CANNOT BE FAILED.

>>344881026
Don't bother with PSO2. It's a waste of time. PSP2 and PSP2i are good, though. Ephinea is also a good server. There's a summer event coming up as well because server's one-year anniversary, so that could be neat.

PSO2 was released when SEGA were going through a difficult time. Everything was going poorly for them, through poor decisions or poor sales. There's evidence that at one point they were working on an English release of PSO2, but as the company was about to crash and burn, they decided to focus on "core franchises", which meant closing a bunch of their external studios and shelving PSO2's localisation and western release.
In the years since, there have been some clear attempts at attempting to bring it westwards, with hiring ads at Sega-owned studios for project managers who have experience with working with Japanese studios and online games, and stories of them trying to give it to another studio entirely to bring over to avoid the problems that came with PSU.
However, as PSO2 is now several years old, and makes most of its money from anime collaborations that wouldn't be feasible outside of Japan, it's probably destined to never leave their shores, as the hype for it has long since passed (you've either played it by now or not) and it would be dead on arrival here.
>>
>>344882328
I don't know about initially, but it's clearly too late now. Anyone who really wants to play is already playing the Japanese version. The cost of upkeep and translations would not be recouped at this point.
>>
>>344882747
Actually the PS4 release more than quadrupled the playercount, but its tapered back down to a steady triple or so during prime time.
It was so full that they had to shut down new character creation on Ship 4. They're trying their hardest to bring in new players constantly, running commercials about Episode 4 and everything.

I miss it too. PSO had a really unique economy before hacks/exploits screwed it up. You hunt for rare items and then trade those rare items with other players. Nothing was soulbound or trade limited. If you didn't have rare weapons/armor, you could trade people photon drops instead. I remember spending a large portion of the game just trading all the shit I collected and socializing with people through symbol chat.

2004 was forever ago

I remember when people posted pso:bb on /v/ it was near Christmas, so it was literally like a Christmas present for me. I had played to like 160 solo on gamecube as a FOmarl and I played again on PSO PC that I had to learn to burn to discs and install through complicated ways, and it only had episode 1 so I got bored. When the private server came up and everyone was playing, I think I ended up playing a huge amount in the /v/ rooms just running TTF. Playing a FOmarl with a group was so satisfying, knowing my buffs weren't just getting used by myself equipped with the mantis daggers. Episode 4 was worth the wait too.

You don't gain much from restarting, since only your mag requires money to reset. If one of your free slots is still vacant, it is a good idea to make a new character even if you won't use it, but generally, you lose a ton of progress by scrapping an old character completely.
>>
>>344867468
Those are your reasons? Not the

>butchering of atmosphere and character design
>not the copy paste rare weapons that are functionally the same as their 1* counterparts aside from potentials (shitty passive power boosts or passive specific boosts)
>inflated droprates that makes PSO look like kids play and the addition of rare boosts so you HAVE to run with them in order to get some chance of a rare
>addition of markets that trivializes most rares and was the reason rares were so expensive in the first place
>progression being so fucked that they had to release cards to give you a free rare
>trade and player market being gone and replaced with a shitty AH
>passives stats being really strong and having the worst system to add them on to armor
>emergency quest and how all relevant updates and gear are being added to them instead of adding difficulty modes
>plethora of mission but all are shit and only relevant content being available to EQs (can't play at a certain time? Fuck you)
>Skill tree being expansive and massive with lots of possibility but only one build is viable making (glass cannon or bust) most new players have to restart or make mission take much longer
>combat being extremely PA heavy making some weapons good in theory but falling off fast due to EQ mobs
>maps losing the puzzle element and being randomized blobs of garbage
>bosses outside of SOME EQ bosses posing no threat
>class balance being abysmal and favors range
>balance revolves of nerfing something to being useless or buffing it until it broken
>ways to make money outside of the AH are tedious and you cannot hunt rares in harder missions to make money since they are only available at certain times and the drop rate is so abysmal you wont find them (save for the new 13* tokyo rares)
>best rares in the game are not sellable or tradeable so weapon market is basically worthless

I can go on but i'll bump this thread. I hate pso2 and I payed since alpha.

>>344890330
Most damage skills act as multipliers, so stacking them improves your numbers by a lot.

Weapon's element should be maxed, and potential at least unlocked.

Affixes are deceptively important. Having +70 on each piece of gear gives you a nice boost.

Shifta drink, or, if you have the time and enough base attack for it to work better, Photon drink's secondary effect.

Team tree buff if it's available.

Techer's buff if you have one or are one yourself.

If you are talking parser numbers and not just what you see on the screen, most classes that aren't Force or Braver need proper setup to deal damage effectively.

> I'm just spamming enter because I don't know the controls
I dunno want enter does, but there are three types of main attacks, and two of them are ones you're gonna want to use right from the start. There's a quick attack and a strong attack, strong has less accuracy but every hit in your three hit combo is more accurate than the last.
I think by default the attacks/main pallate are bound to the arrow keys? Fuck knows why.

It's not that surprising. Anyone who was on PSU JP towards the end could tell you of the bad things that were going to happen with PSO2. They started putting in heavy cash shop paywalling everywhere on quests, items, and clothing shit.
>>
>>344891263
thanks, I didn't know you had to get the timing right for the three hit combo
>>
>>344891924
That didn't really start with PSO2, considering how a lot of the quests were behind an actual pay wall in PSU.

thats what i said.
>>

Pay wall wouldn't be a problem if the game wasn't a shallow puddle of piss. There is barely any content besides the constant anime collab shit.
>>
BAHH FUCK!. I can't decide to i take the time to patch up pso2 or just say fuck it and go back to psobb?.
How good is the ephinea server compared to schthack?
>>
>>344892621
I honestly wouldn't mind paying money for PSO2 if they actually introduced new battle content on a consistent schedule.

Something like FFXIV where every 3 months there's a new major patch that adds dungeons, bosses, and more story development.
>>
>>344891607
Unique builds and their advocates still exist in PSO2, and they are just as worthless as they were in PSO. The only difference is that the only way to keep them out of your party now is to organize with 10 other people instead of three.
>>
>>344892913
Story has been going at a faster pace than that as far as I noticed, and don't they add new content at similar intervals? There was a drought where you only got limited quests between Tokyo and Yamato, but now there's been the ship, the new PD and now Odin within two months.

Unique builds in PSO2 revolve around following a cookie cutter skill tree you found online and going with that. There's hardly any room for unique builds through itemization except for mags but that's stretching it.

Unique builds in PSO revolved around your actual character race and how you gear them. For example, a Formar is classified as a Force exclusive class. However, Fomars can cast spells faster with fist weapons or unequipped (no other race can do this) and benefit from a larger range of melee weapons because of their higher than average ATP. This made them excellent melee mages if you gear them appropriaty (demonic fork allows your Megid spell to pierce through enemies, double saber special attacks that consume TP to deal high damage, real neis claw boosts potency of your spells and is a fist weapon so it benefits from Fomars fasting casting passive effect).

Even though the game tells you specifically that they are more suited for ranged casting, you can turn them into different roles through proper itemization.

it's 5am here

seeya guys in another thread, I'm gonna level up and I hope we play some time when I git better

I wish there was a reason to play classes that aren't Force in PSO2.
>>
>>344893651
Cool, so PSO2 has good game design, and PSO has shit game design, Good to know.
>>
>>344894018
PSO2 has the worst game design possible. Everyone is mostly the same role. There's no opportunity to be different outside of dressing your character.
>>
>>344892903
its vanilla pso bb with some quality of life enhancements.
>>
>>344894109
Its a 50 v 1 zerg fest. You just gear to do the most damage possible, and most classes are pretty comparable end game (although some have to be more risky to keep up in DPS than others like limit break fighters)

PSO2's game design fits the gameplay perfectly. Theres lots of ways to optimize.
>>
Sandbox Mode in Ephinea is awesome. I'm too lazy to grind in PSO again but being able to cheat in a controlled environment and still able to interact with other players has been fun.
>>
>>344894109
Are you kidding? That's the best part.

Fuck the whole "holy trinity" bullshit every other MMO touts.

NOW EVERY CLASS IS DPS. NOW EVERYBODY GETS TO PULL THEIR OWN WEIGHT!

Iam still kinda pissed and confused about this, mostly because they have fully translated version of the game and they decided to give that version to the Japanese players who speak english.

I thought it was a joke and still hope so because that is bullshit when I read that article about SEGA localizing games.

What's the difference between a Ranger and another Ranger in PSO2? None. They are all railroaded to the same job. If you don't follow what's the best path for them, you're losing damage and thereby wasting everyone's time.

This stale game design didn't exist in PSO. Every character was different from the items they had, to what racial abilities each race had, and how they raised their mags.
>>
>>344894487
>Everyone is a DPS class
>Everyone follows the same build to do max DPS
>Game gets boring quick especially with the lack of content PSO2 has and nobody does anything but Emergency Quests
>>
>>344894714
The difference is how well you can play. Being able to stay alive with proper dodging and put out good damage is hard, and a LOT of people suck at it. Differentiate yourself by playing well, not by choosing the cheesy race/class combo at char gen. PSO mechanics were garbage because if you didnt cheese out a broken min max character starting from char gen you were useless.
>>
>>344894714
One could go launchers, but in reality two rangers are just more coordinated weak bullet dispensers. Or they're completely uncoordinated and keep overwriting eachother's shit.

What's the difference between two RAcaseals in PSO?
>>
>>344894704
The real reason PSO2 hasn't been localized for the west is because of the outstanding licensing issues involved with all those animeXgame promos they do in-game.
>>
>>344894912
>Because having one guy stand in front of a boss holding a guard button while maintaining an arbitrary "aggro" meter, while a techer mashes resta would be way more fun.

What are you trying to get at here?

When I found this out I pretty much gave up. It took me like 6 months to get to 180. I remember looking up the exp values on PSOworld.

And you wanna know whats absolutely fucking crazy? They REDUCED the exp to get to lv200 when they repackaged the game to sell as ep 1&2. So on dreamcast pso v2 you needed something like 200 million exp to hit 200 (I think they reduced it to 185 million in subsequent releases, as well as giving you areas that gave more exp). The top level area (ultimate ruins) gave something like 150k for a full clear. I seriously don't believe anyone ever got to lv200 legit on dc pso (there were tons of lv200 around as hacking was rampant). Jeez it would have taken years.

One Racaseal can gear specifically for launcher builds like snow queen that can freeze anything in a line and spread needle that paralyzes anything it hits.

The other Racaseal can focus on damage traps and blasting enemies with charged Vulcans which use meseta as damage.

One Racaseal is built for support, the other is built for damage.

Play its sequel which has better combat

>For years
Literally came less than a year later in Europe. And NA came out less than a year after JP release as well so I'm not sure what are you on about.

Most of cheaters were NA, biggest botting shells were NA. RMT started to proliferate the moment NA players arrived as well. You could easily tell when doing HNMs during EU prime, everything was so fucking easy, JP players were asleep, NA cheaters not home yet.

Too bad PSO2 is freemium shit that has no lasting content
>>

and grinding the same zone for hundreds of hours from 180 to 200 in PSO is "lasting content" get the fuck out of here
>>

Any reason to be move there? My 200's are on schthack and I don't want to restart on another server.

but nothing that takes advantage of that combat. sega only wants you to button mash in mpas.
