That's not a mech, OP, it's some shitty weeaboo mecha garbage.
Picrelated, though, is literal perfection in both form and function and is the embodiment of what a semi-realistic mech should be.
>tall enough and has sufficient gun elevation angles to fire back at targets firing from building rooftops or windows
>massive leg structure to prevent buckling under its own weight and carry a good amount of armor while positioning the knee joints in a way that they cannot be hit from the frontal projection while the mech is in a crouching position
>THICC armor plate above the cockpit to survive ambushes from above in urban environments and even air-to-ground weapons from aerotech fighters
>amazing weight capacity that allows it to lift 4 massive energy cannons, capable of slagging pretty much anything in a single salvo, that are linked to a targeting computer, that allows for pinpoint precision against moving targets at extended ranges
>tall enough to instantly ANY armored vehicle with ANY amount of armor by firing at an angle at the top of its target turret where the armor is guaranteed to be paper thin due to how armored vehicles like tanks are designed in general

>"BattleMechs debuted in FASA Corporation's BattleTech, a board game of futuristic armored combat played with dice, counters and paper record sheets on a map of hexagonal territories. The game's first edition in 1984 was titled BattleDroids and featured mecha based directly on those in the Japanese animated television series Macross and other Japanese animation from the late '70s and early '80s."
Your precious "realistic" mechs are just as weaboo as humanoid mechs.
Not to mention that battletech/mechwarrior has plenty of humanoid mechs itself.

>>344857980
Armored Core feels cumbersome when compared to Zone of Enders.
I also dislike it's heavy focus on ranged combat. ZOE 2 has a very good balance between melee, and shooting, and you can seamlessly transition from one to another.
I also love the grabbing and throwing mechanic.

The concept of mechs will never be militarily viable.
How's FM:Evolved if you forget it carries the FM name?
>>344858670
Some sort of legged combat walkers that can operate in hard terrain and urban environments better than tanks, could be viable. Sorta like pic related. Arm them with a bunch of heavy weapons, and let them support infantry advances.
But true mechs are a pipe dream.
Power armor and powered exoskeletons on the other hand, are a distinct possibility assuming that battery tech advances enough, or that we develop compact enough power generators to run such suits.
>>344858864
The out-of-mech missions where you run around on foot break the whole pace and are horrendous and the bosses are shit.
Mech on mech combat is decent.
>>344858586
You aren't wrong.
>>344858898
>Some sort of legged combat walkers that can operate in hard terrain and urban environments better than tanks, could be viable.
It wouldn't really. Everything that's bulkier than an average human is a liability in urban warfare. Infantry are enough for these kind of situations.
>that first time you use the Vector Cannon
>>344859253
M8, you're dead wrong. Urban combat is literally impossible and/or WAY too costly without armor support. You cannot airstrike every entrenched enemy position or fortification, you need tanks and their cannons for cheap anti-fortification capabilities.
Of course, urban combat without infantry with armored vehicles only is suicide, but you still need the armor.
>>344859253
>Everything that's bulkier than an average human is a liability in urban warfare.
Sure thing broski
and while you've got your urban infantry or mountaineers, I'll have mechs with better weapons and armor, able to take on entire squads by themselves, while being more mobile.
People who write off mechs carte blanche really don't understand the upside to what is effectively a bigger, faster, and better armed/armored human.

There is a thing called cost effectiveness..
Also,
>that high as fuck profile
I hope this is not what you actually envision when you talk about viable mechs.
The closest we'll ever get to that is powered exo-suits, nothing more.
>>344859987
>shit gets blown up in war; that's what war is about
When you have to justify the expense of losing a multi-billion dollar piece of equipment to a Congressional panel for budgeting and military appropriations, after a large group of unwashed groundpounders destroyed it in some ass end of Shitholistan, human infantry is going to look a lot more better for cost-effectiveness and results. Unless you're outsourcing war to a defense contractor who has no qualms about throwing away money.
>>344860510
Nobody says "stop with the tanks" because sometimes they drive over a mine or a 700 dollar rocket destroyed a few.
>what are your protocols?
>Protocol 1: link to pilot
>Protocol 2: uphold the mission

>>344860723
Pretty sure tanks wouldn't cost the fraction of the cost of a hypothetical mech. Mechanical bipedal locomotion is simply just ridiculously inefficient, and I bet you'd have to pour in a ridiculous amounts of money into it for to be as good as wheeled or tracked vehicles.
>>344858437
Mah nigga.
>>344860723
No M1A1 or M1A2 has been destroyed as a result of enemy fire, nor IED; they've been disabled, but repaired, and those destroyed were done so deliberately by friendly fire, to prevent capture and use by enemy forces. Congress has also been accused of allocating and spending too much money specifically on the M1 series alone, because there's apparently too many of the damn things and some feel it's unnecessary to increase the fleet.
Now try to apply that to mechs, at estimates of what a fully kitted, fully functional mech would cost.
>>344854325

>>344861558

That's an outright lie. Saudi M1A2S with depleted Uranium armor plates have suffered frontal penetration and have been destroyed by 80s Soviet weaponry.

>>344861006
> Mechanical bipedal locomotion is simply just ridiculously inefficient
It's actually more efficient in every type of terrain except flat high friction surfaces like roads, where wheels are better.
There is a reason the vast majority of animal life on the planet has evolved limbs. They are incredibly efficient, legs especially make extensive use of what are effectively organic springs.
Honestly, it's really telling when people who don't have the first fucking clue about robotics, kinematics, biology, or well - fucking anything to do with science and technology at all - start mouthing off about these things, particularly in regards to mechs.
To literally anyone with a clue you look like fucking ignoramuses

>>344861804
God, you're thick, I was talking about power consumption , I'm sure we could emulate the flapping of a birds wings in an aerial vehicle but it would be still horribly inefficient transfer of energy to movement.

Whose best bipedal design thus far has been this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVlhMGQgDkY
Really compelling stuff there.
Look, I get that you're riding the wave of popular science, but you clearly don't understand all the significant facets of implementing a sizable mechanized military force.
>>344861901
>The impracticality of mechs
...due to legged locomotion is a meme.
The true limiting factor of legged mechs is the fact that the leg structure must be extremely stable and stability of beams under extreme dynamic loads is an absolute bitch to achieve without making the legs THICC and massive as fuck, as they will literally buckle under their own weight and the weight of the mech.
Look at picrelated, the smaller the area moment of inertia "I", the smaller is the load that will buckle the beam and I depends on the cross-section of the beam, so you LITERALLY NEED THICK AS FUCK LEGS even if you use super-strong materials.
>>344862416
Machines mimicking human movement look scary as fuck.
>>344862141
while bird aren't as efficient as a plane, animal life is pretty efficient.
If we want to talk about wings, our engines are better on fast planes, but if we look at something agile having something akin to a bat's wing system would blow elicopters out of the water.
Again, I actually think that pure mechs will never be a reality due to >>344862525, as making them big would make thing hardcore, but small human sized support for infantry and power-armor stuff to augment the infantry is actually doable and it is being researched
>>344862416
first wheeled machines and planes too were pretty cluncky and expeensive. They got better with time. Your is a non argument
>>344862730
Whatever. Move those goalposts. It's never going to be a practical military solution in your lifetime.
>>344862730
Look, could you stop talking about organic locomotion? It's completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand, my point is that mechanical bipedal locomotion requires a tremendous amount of power compared to conventional vehicles in exchange for some quite dubious advantages. It's simply not worth it.
>>344862962
Military - no, as it needs to be robust and reliable as fuck. Commercial - yes, because commercial walker mechs already exist and do things better than tracked or wheeled vehicles.
