This is why I don't play stealth games anymore. When you finish the good old ones, you are pretty much done. There are a few good stealth games released after 2010 (Styx, Hitman 2016) but most stealth games nowadays are stealth-action hybrids that don't punish you for being detected.
>>
>>344844270
I liked Styx. Great art style, environments and mostly good infiltration levels. Detection ususally means instant death, on hard anyway. Stuff like enemies often only having 2-3 different faces and voices got annoying, but it's very decent overall.
>>
Stealth is for non-operators.

They're both fun. Also operator games typically have at least some semblance of stealth in them. Playing SWAT 3 right now and it's pretty damn fun.

Depends on what you want to consider stealth I suppose.

Would trying to be unseen in ARMA/DayZ count as you move from sniper spot to sniper spot or trying to loot?

I'm proud of you.

Only thing I really hated about Styx was the forced "fall to death" height. If you're falling for a certain period of time you'd trigger the "falling to death" event. And even if there's floor beneath you, you'll still glitch through it.
Otherwise a really nice stealth game.

I finished Dishonored a few days ago and I've moved into Styx, pretty good modern stealth games, going to re run Theif soon. Should be good fun, is there any mods I should grab? Or just go vanilla?
>>
So, do you guys actually do iron mode runs where you stick to whatever happens in your missions, or do you reload your saves like pussy ass faggots every time you're detected?
>>
>>344847630
>Corvo feels so SHIT compared to Daud
ftfy

DLC was so much more fun because Daud actually has an interesting character and is not a mute who gets pushed around by others and bends to their ways.
>>
>>344847862
If you've never played them with the New Dark patch do that. TFix for Thief 1 and TafferPatcher for Thief 2. It updates them for modern systems.

Other than that I can't think of too many mods that aren't just fan missions.
>>

Otherwise, I take it up the ass
>>
>>344844542
Ground Zeros was okay. TPP sucked, though.

I tried playing Blacklist as was put off by how there was no alert system and guards in each area didn't react to you going loud in previous areas. The missions felt like they belonged in a Ghost Recon game.

It isn't as bad as I thought it would be, so far at least.
Its just pretty annoying when you go to stealth through some gas or go to hack something and you just end up failing really badly without the augs you're used to.
Will I get my 70 sniper and revolver ammo back when I finish the DLC?

Dishonored is hardly a stealth game, it's got a detection system and that's about it.
By this logic we can call Uncharted and Far Cry stealth games too, but even those don't give you the ability to teleport behind enemies just to make the stealth that extra bit futile.
>>
>>344848374
Payday 2 is like Assassin's Creed MP in that it would be great if people actually played it stealthily but everyone just rushes in instead. And you kinda need a team that knows what they're doing or be on voice communications.
>>
>>344848595
Far Cry 3 and 4 actually DOES have a stealth system underneath it.
The AI behaves appropriately as AI enemies would in a stealth game - The problem is that your character quickly becomes so powerful that it's made redundant.
>>
>>344848595
Might as well kill this thread then unless people really want to talk about the same 4 games that are 10+ years old. There aren't any stealth games on par with Chaos Theory, Thief 1/2, or the earlier Hitman games. Styx at least has similar mechanics but imo is a pretty mediocre game that could use better execution of what it wants to do.

Stealth is dead and if you don't want to talk about similar games then these threads should just stop being made.

Yeah, the games are so old that they have issues on modern systems. Using TFix for Thief 1 and TafferPatcher for Thief 2 will fix all issues and bring them up to par compatibility wise with modern games.

Basically someone found the Thief 1, 2, and SS2 source codes on a Dreamcast as they were in the process of being ported to it when LGS went under. Either the guy that found it or someone else used the source code to release a patch fixing the games on modern systems. I don't think they released the source code though, which sucks.

The swindle.

2d stealth game, probably the best version of a stealth I've played. Incredibly difficult with a 1 alarm you're fucked game but you can buy upgrades that makes the game playable, then it keeps rolling by making the higher levels require more money, but you get more money on harder missions etc.

Incredibly janky though and it can infuriate when it fucks up. Very fun though and I would recommend it definitely.

Pandora Tomorrow is much like the first, and Chaos Theory is one of the greatest stealth vidya of All Time.
Double Agent is alright (apparently 'last gen' xbox version is superior, both Ubisoft studios developed their own Double Agent and for some reason the A-team got the shittier platform to develop for)
Conviction and Blacklist are whatever.

To me the controls in Styx felt pretty much perfect. There are only a few glitches regarding the wall anchors. Sometimes you just slip off them trying to grab them.

And yes, controls are the most important aspect of a stealth game. You can't be expected to execute elaborate plans if the controls are unreliable and unpredictable. Case in point, pic related.

>Try to turn off lights, jump through glass instead
>Try to jump through glass, vault table instead
>Try to vault table, pick up enemy weapon instead
>Try to pick up weapon, climb wall instead

Honestly, you seem to adore Thief. If you liked Garrett, you'll probably like Sam.
Unfortunately by Blacklist, they said fuck off Michael Ironside (Sam's VA) and made him a jarhead fuck. Not unlike Garrett, who lost Stephen Russel and decided to be fuelled by kleptomania rather than the need to pay his rent.

They kicked David Hayter as well. However, Hayter was a bad voice actor by many accounts and his Snake voice sounded nothing like a real person's speaking voice.
>>
>>344851884
One thing I liked about the stealth in the Batman games was that they actually started catching onto your bullshit and countering it. After a point, the first game's henchmen start boobytrapping the gargoyles you've been abusing so you can't just chill on them and wait for openings. They'll also start getting collars that let all their friends know when you take them out. In the second game, guards start getting thermal googles to spot you on gargoyles, they'll shoot them down if they catch you using them, they get proximity mines they can place down (and that you can reset for your own use), and they can jam your detective vision.

>>
>>344853578
>his Snake voice sounded nothing like a real person's speaking voice.

I don't like Metal Gear, but I'd have to argue that Hayter's voice makes more sense when you combine it with a game series that doesn't make any sense. If you try to be serious with something that looks like a Hot Shots -type of parody of anime bullshit, you'll just make things worse. That's why Kojima is such a hack. Everyone is laughing at how dumb the stupid shit he makes is, but he expects it to be taken seriously. No. Just no. Go play with your little Joosten dolls you weirdo.

Me too. I liked how getting caught would alert the whole base and changed how the guards were spread out. My first playthough of GZ is forever ingrained in my brain.

>Everything goes well until I get Paz and some guards see that she's missing.
>Check idroid
>So many guards between me and the safe extraction zone.
>Decide to call in Morpho to the helipad near the middle of the base
>Put Paz in a corner and get in an APC
>Blow up another APC
>Shoot the AA guns targeting Morpho
>Thin out the guards a little and make a break for it with Paz
>The music and noise of the bullets whizzing around us as we get on the chopper
>The flying away while still under fire
>My face at this point

I prefer a middle of the road deal that has you using every tool at your disposal to get the job done in a painless way, without ever being detected.

But of the two, A I'd say.

I imagine you always prefered non lethal loadouts in Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. It's a lot easier to get 100% mission ratings when you have so many silent and nonlethal gadgets.
>>
why did nonlethal become synonymous with stealth games again? i understand remaining undetected but why is knocking out or tranquilizing enemies prevalent in the majority of stealth games
>>
>>344855108
The Grim missions are the most fun, imo.

But it sucks how so many routes are blocked without a co-op partner. Also how you can't do Briggs' missions at all without co-op.
>>
>>344855191
Ghosting means you leave people alive and unaware. If they suddenly fall asleep, they're still unaware.
>>
>>344855191
A non-lethal takedown is always the most silent way to eliminate the opposition.
>>
>>344839632

I started playing Republique, but my hard drive broke and I have to download it again.
>>
>>344855191
Because some games did it, they got popular, and videogames have a real follow the leader approach to design.
>>
>>344855468
It's a tad one-note. Narrative based mobile game, what can you expect?

Hard drives don't just "break".
>>
>>344855296
yeah pretty much, don't wanna try doing briggs missions with randoms, might trigger them for not doing pure ghost play or something
>>
>>344856131
I don't think anyone even plays at this point, either. I tried to do the missions with two controllers, but it's near impossible. I just want to see what the unlockable armor is like.
>>
I've started playing MGS. I find the earlier ones aren't super stealthy and the AI is shit but at least they're still good games. I feel like picking up the thief series again.

none of the MGS games are stealthy

I have a stealth fetish.
What are some good stealth games that are worth wasting my life on? I recall someone telling me that the original Splinter Cell trilogy was perfect but the rest of the series is ignorable. I own the MGS Legacy Collection. I'll buy the Splinter Cell HD Collection when I get the chance. What else is out there?

Was this already released? I had my eye on it since I heard it was Death to Spies 3 with a different name. Did it flop?

It's a total flop and it got negative reviews
The original dev also went bankrupt and it was developed by some American team

Is Escape From Butcher Bay actually different in gameplay or is Dark Athena just given a lower tier for the campaign itself?

As long as you have a scoring system that encourages stealth(Hitman, MGS etc.), action-stealth hybrids are great

>If they suddenly fall asleep, they're still unaware.

Ghosting means accomplishing the objective in a way that makes it seem very unlikely that an infiltration ever took place. You have a facility full of guards and personnel, none of whom saw a thing. The bank mission of Chaos Theory is the perfect example. You get to ruin the surveillance data in a room with several people constantly occupying it, and you can even hack the servers and plant fake emails to frame the personnel of a robbery conspiracy. Then you steal several million worth of treasury bonds just to mask the fact that you actually were in the vault to access a data server. And because you did it all without harming anyone or being detected, it would be inconcievable that anyone would ever figure out what really happened. That's ghosting.
>>
>>344849518
My biggest problem with it is that it becomes more of a platformer than a stealth game in the second half.

It might sound retarded at first, but IMO Overkill know how to do a good Co-Op game. Might work if they make something with better stealth than PayDay2.

Payday 2.
If you have people you know aren't shit it can be quite fun for a couple of hours at time.
Except if you are trying the "Car shop" mission on death wish. That mission is a nightmare.

DLC wise yes.
But if you hack in all that stuff and only play with friends because the game will call you a cheater it can be quite a fun waster.

>Seven out of Nine healing potions used in one fight
They really should have had potions capacity restrictions depending on difficulty picked.

>Hardest - 3 or so max
>Next one down - 5
>etc etc

I just finished a playthrough of no deaths and no potions allowed (and no bone charm health/mana from water drink).

It was very different.

Easily still get low chaos, Low chaos means only about what, 5-15 people killed per mission?

>Yes, you can kill quite a lot of people and still get low chaos

This.

You only get high chaos if you kill 75% of NPCs in the level.

It's just really fucking disappointing.
You have all these great ideas and the trademark TECHNOLOGY but then Kojimbo decides that the games needs to be 50% Cutscene, 25% Bulletsponge Bossfights, 20% Turret Sections and only 5% Stealth gameplay.
>>
>>344862750
At least it's not as bad as V.

The mechanics of V are good, but the level design renders it completely moot. Even Far Cry is better.
>>
>>344862465
>if you wanted to just attack and potion spam your way through an entire level you'd need a lot more than nine potions

Indeed you would

but i do think it is silly that they decided Bolts and bullets would need capacity limitations with pouches and buying upgrades, but then ignored how many potions a player can carry.

When playing normally i put a limit on myself to either only carry about 3 of each elixirs max, or not use potions in combat - usually both.

My shitty recording/webm converting came to 7mb, but this is what i would have posted

MGS is a bad stealth game because 3rd person stealth is essentially broken. You can see enemy positions all the time with no risk and you just wait for patrols. In first person you have to lean and take risks analyzing where guards are, sound awareness, and more.

You could also make an argument for shooters too and seeing around corners.
