Woolly World is better
>>
>>344823953
No its not.

I finally beat it last year as part of the club nintendo give aways.

Unless the SNES version is somehow significantly better, its a good game, but overshadowed by almost every Mario platformer.
>>
>>344824758
though I personally love Yoshi's Island more than the mainline mario games, I might agree with you except for one regard. The bosses in this game have far more creative variety than "lol here's boom boom and the koopalings again." It took until fucking Mario Galaxy for them to even get close.
>>
>>344824758
>overshadowed by almost every Mario platformer.

Of the classics, maybe Mario 3.

The rest though? Nope.

But it is the SNES Version
>>
I'm sorry, what did you say, OP?
>>
its not even the best mario platformer
>>
>>344826123

This fat piece of shit has shit taste. He was right about VR at least.
>>
>>344827283

>Yoshi's Island DS

Honestly, it didn't seem very good to me. Maybe it's because the music was so shitty that it ruined my experience, but I did not have fun.
>>
...i agree o_o

actually the ds is shit, i just wanted to post that pic

Fixed that for you OP.
>>
>>344826072

No, its the GBA version. The SNES one has yet to be ported. No one knows why.
>>
>>344827283
But it is

Literally it is, and it's not a main Mario game
>>
>>344827993

Ah, okay. I thought you meant that it was better. It's been a long time since I've played it yeah, I remember having a really bad time playing it.
>>
>>344826123
Jeff hates RE4 because of how it controls.

His opinions don't matter.

no THIS IS

As for OP, the only possible downside to the game is the rather limited selection of background music. Lotta repetition.
>>
>>344828023

Isn't Super Mario Advance 3 a port of the SNES version?
>>
>>344828007
Nah, the ocean region sucks. YI is amazing from start to end.
>>
>>344828194
it does control like shit.
>>
>>344828313

I also found it to be too easy. I mean, I know it's a Yoshi game and they're pretty laid back, but I would have looked challenge outside of the extra levels.
>>
>>344828418

I guess. They added sound effects, tweaked the colors for the GBA screen, and added some new levels.
>>
>>344828506
Your opinion doesn't matter.
>>
>>344828563

Didn't they have to make changes due to Argonaut owning rights to the Super FX chip?

tank controls were a mistake.

>I started watching porno when these people were barely shitting in their diapers

It's wrong, all so wrong.
>>
>>344828650

Allegedly. Although YI uses the Super FX2 chip, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
>>
haha
>>
>>344828861

Oh yeah, Super FX2, sorry. From what I'm reading, it too is owned by Argonaut. Star Fox SNES has also been excluded from VC. If this is the reason, then thank God they didn't utilize the chip for many other games.
>>
>>344828650
Why would they have to make changes to the software for lack of a specific model of a coprocessor? API's aren't copyrighted.

Besides, the GBA version doesn't need or use the Super FX chip because the GBA is more powerful than a SNES. It can run all the transforms and whatnot on its own. And I don't think there's any effects in the port that the original lacks.
>>
>>344829071
Didn't Super Mario RPG use one of the chips?

But the games always look washed out and generally lower quality than their predecessors. I don't know if this is just a case of handhelds having a smaller resolution or whatever, but the left is clearly better looking that than the right.
>>
>>344829127

It used the Nintendo SA-1.
>>
>>344823953
Wouldn't call it "perfect" but it is still fucking amazing.
>>
>>344829478
Oh that's pretty simple to explain anon.

Those games were designed for a much darker screen. GBA screens were dark as shit. Lower the gamma of your monitor and shift the color balance to a more yellowy color for more accurate reproduction.
>>
It's great but Super Mario World is the one that's perfect.
>>
>>344829478
isn't that because gba didn't have back lights?
>>
>>344828418
It is, but from the original version, red coins are no longer detectable from the naked eye as in the SNES version, being gold, red tinted coins. They look exactly like regular gold coins. So unless you have the guidebook for the original (which I did), better stock up on those extremely rare magnifing glasses!
Oh, and about the guide? Too bad the GBA version added an extra stage to every world now, which wasn't in the original. Good luck going in blind now.
As much as I love YI, the SNES version is vastly superior thanks to it's comfy not washed out colors and better sounding sfxs and music.
>>
>>344828507
not that it's really a part of the game, but I personally like the "0%" challenge where you try to get as least points as possible. (I think it's actually impossible to get a score of 0 on every level.) I've found the bosses to be challenging to get low scores on. The challenge is more in the timing though than in the actual fight itself.
>>
>>344823953
If by perfect, you mean a game design that cannot be improved upon, then... no. Any of the vehicle sections were pretty much terrible, the baby's cries were annoying (intentionally, but still annoying), and you could easily be stuck in a position where Mario ends up somewhere you just can't get to. Yoshi's Woolly World improved on all those aspects, and while Woolly World wasn't as good in some respects (nearly zero exploration of stages) it does show that Yoshi's Island could be improved upon.

If by perfect, you mean no game could be better, than... no. Besides the above, there is no way to have a "one best game" because you'll always be comparing some game mechanics and some game genres with others which are incompatible. Even in this case, it's hard to compare Yoshi's Island to a straight momentum platformer (Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country) or a pure exploration platformer (Super Metroid, Goonies 2) because it has a fair amount of difference from either. And so, you are just compiling faults between games and then comparing the lists, as opposed to comparing the games themselves.
