Why is this allowed? Why is no legal action taken against the Chinese every time they do this?
>>
>legal action
>against china
that's pretty funny m8
>>
Nobody plays their shit games anyway. People are fully aware it is a ripoff of something better.
>>
>>344823527
Paid for by the organs of many
>>
Because it's allowed there because they don't release it outside of China
>>
>>344823527
I see no similarities
>>
Because China is one of the two truly independent and sovereign nations, not being an American satellite (the other being Russia).
>>
>>344823527
>Why
Because China's government defends their own no matter what and doing anything against them would basically require a literal war.
Also,
>Iron Man
>Hulk, but with Purple Hair and basic armor bits
>EVE
>Ichigo
>Thor
>Some vaguely familiar samurai who could pass for many characters
>Goku
>Possibly a variant of Patches/Pudge/etc. of the fat butcher that eats things zealously
>>
Because it's in China not in America or any other country.

Besides, China basically does whatever the fuck it wants.

(Disney crack downs on anyone using their characters who are over 70 years old, who at this point have become cultural icons that should be fair game)
>>
>>344823527
China will run you through a gauntlet of bullshit if you try to take them to court over this. It will be in Chinese court too, mind you. They have no interest in letting a lawsuit go through.
In short, you'll bleed money and get nothing for it.
>>
>>344824090
Ah, i stopped watching Naruto, so it all faded from memory.
I stopped watching Bleach too, but main characters are always iconic and I never saw an episode with Madara.

What is wrong with those threads?

China takes great pride in anything that it makes, and it takes great pride in defeating western powers that attempt to contest anything it does.

You're going to be suing a Chinese company in a Chinese court system with the government definitely having a hand in what's going on. They will throw money at the courts until you eventually cut your losses and run away.

There's really nothing you can do about it.

copyright laws were made to protect creators not corporations
what if the Grimm's Fairy Tales were under control by a corporation that kept the copyright under "protection" were 200 years later you so as much couldn't dress up as a character without getting sued?
that's basically the control Disney has over their characters

are you telling me its right for people to get sued for evening mentioning the existence of a band, song, or cartoon character that's been so old that its a cultural icon?

As in, their own family's parties, or as a business, for profit? One of those involves licensing, which means paying for rights.

If it's any consolation the Chinese are living within a giant Final Destination movie, where everything is out to kill them in strange and horrific ways.
Ripoffs are the least of their problems.
>>
>>344823527
You have to sue them in Chinese courts, who never, ever, never ever, enforce copyrights.

There was a case where VW sued a Chinese car company for infringement. They brought evidence that the Chinese car was 100% identical to the VW car, right down to the size measurement on the screws and bolts. Chinese court ruled that the cars were different in every way and the lawsuit was frivolous.

If they published these games internationally they might run into problems but their country is so huge they can just stick to internal profits and never worry about it ever.
>>
>>344823527
It's China. You aren't going to do shit.
>>
Because suing is way too fucking stupid elsewhere. You have shit like Capcom suing because of button layouts in fighting games, or because they think a game is like SF (Fighter's History Dynamite) even though SF was full of unoriginal copies for characters anyway.

It's just a shitty race. Whoever can ripoff the next big thing and file it as their copyright wins because they then aggressively fuck over anyone who does the same thing but isn't fast enough.

>>
Because China's government doesn't give a fuck and the blatant ripoffs aren't a threat against the real IPs.
>>
>>344828556
>>344828478
My point is that Disney used these properties in order to make their stories, which is fine, but then they make a push like anything they add is somehow sacred and shouldn't be used for like a hundred years after they make it. It's insane. Building and remixing what came before you has been the essence of story telling and art for generations. Disney wants a monopoly on their stories long after they have a reasonable amount of time to make profit off of it.
>>
>>344829689
>>344828974
Reminder that if you don't protect your IP you can lose it to the person using it. It isn't about a family ripping disney off, the money is irrelevant, the potential legal ramifications could cause them to lose the entirety of the IP if they willfully ignore it.
>>
>>344827067
Sounds like they were running a business, which is the whole point.
>>
>>344829834
I'm not arguing about if they'd lose it, I'm arguing it shouldn't last as long as it does. The original copyright laws in the US were for 28 years, which is a perfectly reasonable amount of time.
>>
>>344830043
What about ongoing things, such as the comics industry? A hard 28 year limit would kill any value to their works even today, let alone in the future.
>>
>>344830174
>kill any value
>people will stop buying new comics if the old ones become public domain
>>
>>344823527
i heard some truly disturbing stories about China.

Is this true that if you make public knowledge that criticizes the Chinese government or even mention that they are bad, then they will kidnap you and put you in prison until you sign a document and make a press conference admitting that you never made such allegations and that you were never kidnapped and you came here on your own free will?

I also remember hearing one foul story from the mother of a victim. She said that her son went missing after doing something similar like that and the investigative statement was that her son went crazy and checked himself into a mental institution where he killed himself. And their family had no history of mental illnesses.
>>
>>344830174
three decades is a long time to profit anon. If you only have 1 good idea every 3 decades, then perhaps your company shouldn't be in business.

How many companies like disney, ones that would create a new golden era of stories and wonder for kids, or maybe intriguing complex plots, based off previous works, have we lost, because aspiring authors couldn't use stories told in their generation?

Currently, copyright lasts until the creator's death, PLUS SEVENTY YEARS. That's absurd. The author isn't going to be able to make more stories after they die.

If the character are public domain, any company can make merchandise featuring them. Merchandising makes up a HUGE portion of profits, as well as driving sales, and having completely legal competetition for your OWN merchandise kills your profits. If marvel/dc can't profit from their own characters likeness, they stop making merchandise. See X-men right now, 0 merchandise, because it benefits Fox.

And yet, think of all the good stories taking things that are copyright to the Tolkien estate we COULD have. Imagine what a golden era disney could make out of an IP like LOTR, the same way the used fairytales, or Tarzan.

That's how it worked for over a hundred years. Or do you think between the release of the Star Wars: A New Hope, and 2005, Lucas didn't make enough money? I mean, there was only...

The theatrical release in
the rerlease in1978
and in 1979
and 1981
1982
Then the 1982 VHS/beta max release
1984 Broadcast television release
1985 laser disc release
1989 Wide screen laser disc release
1990 VHS rerelease
1992 wide screen VHS release
1993 laser disc rererelease
1995 vhs rererelease
1997 special edition theatrical release
1997 VHS special edition
and the 2004 DVD release.

(this of course, doesn't count the merchandising, at all)

Yes, truly, Lucas would be fucked if it only lasted 30 years.

50 years is fine.

We already know some creators aren't even finished with their IPs after 30 years (Simpsons, Dragon Ball, etc.)

50 years seems like it's pretty fair. The 28 year thing was created when long-lasting IPs for TV shows and movies weren't really a thing.

The second we disband copyright while certain IPs are still insanely popular is when you start seeing Chinese-tier shitty knockoffs. Get read for Dragon Ball Go on Cartoon Network.

The whole point is people should be able to remix and remaster things of their own generation. 30 years is still an insane amount of time.

The purpose of copyright law isn't to stop people making things, just the opposite, it's supposed to encourage people making things by saying "for this long, you can profit off it, and ONLY you".

So what? Disney clearly isn't done with Mickey Mouse, and that's more than 50 years old. Why do they have to stop using it if they still want to continue using it?
>>
>>344833285
After 30 years, people should be able to profit off the things that came before them, just like Disney did.

If you can't make a decent amount of money in 30 years, it probably wasn't that good, or you didn't have the skill to use it.
>>
>>344833285
People legally can make money off it.

Fair Use is a lovely thing
>>
>>344833285
You can still be shut down for making free versions of things protected by copyright. Hell you can even actually make money off of copyrighted stuff if you fall under fairuse. The thing is most companies only come after you if they see you making money off it but that isn't like a limit
>>
>>344823527
