Apart from the 2 monster designs, and one large room towards the end of the game, there isn't anything too visually outlandish about The Dark Descent. A Machine for Pigs has an old-tech scifi aesthetic to it, which gets pretty interesting towards the end as well.

Pretty much this. Your body will slowly start going numb, starting with your feet, legs and arms. Eventually your torso, which is when you might feel a slight pressure over your chest. If you're unlucky, it may cause horrific images of something being on top of you. Pretty sure that's where the folk tale comes from. Me, I usually get a sort of white noise when I'm getting close to sleep paralysis, but I can snap out of it if I try to wiggle around. Spooky shit. I can't sleep on my back because of it.

Sleepy paralysis is not that bad at all, 85% of my dreams consist of some form of horror,death,mystery,surreal, and psychological shit but it doesn't scare me even when I experienced my first sleep paralysis I didn't panic it just pissed me off. I forced myself to move but I would shift for a while then go back into a solid state.
