Anime is supposed to mean Japanese animation. In any other country that wouldn't mean much about the animation's content or style. Unfortunately, Japan has somehow become so creatively bankrupt that no matter what their animation is about, it ends up falling back on the exact same set of tropes and cliches. Even the voice acting always sounds the same. It baffles the mind- how can this many people make the same thing this many times and not get tired of it?

Yes, there is lots of visual novels(or games with visual novel elements) on Steam, but that's only because they are niche to begin with, and are being brought over by niche publishers with original developers being open to new markets.
The bigger developers don't want their games released on Steam, for one reason or another.
