I think the major problem with the game is that people don't understand how content originally had longevity or relevance. You have to pace people through content.
With the game's current setup it wouldn't matter if they had 20 dungeons and 5 raids at an expansions launch, people would still burn through it because of LFR and LFD then complain.

Only the few who remained subbed have been making gold, a lot of them have been spending gold on tokens. There are also some huge gold sinks coming up in Legion, like the mad merchant.
The markets will be super inflated for early Legion gear and crafting mats, so there's an opportunity to take advantage of WoD's idle rich.

Dungeon Finder has existed since WotLK.
Also, what people seemingly forget is that Warlocks were often wanted so people could force them to go to the dungeon (along with helpers for summoning). Then came the normal meeting stones for summoning without warlocks, again forcing some people to go there while some slack off. People have always been lazy about going to the dungeon because it took fucking ages.

If something isn't functional, it's helpful fixing it. The community zoning the content and having nothing to do is supposed to be fixed by them making more content. There's a happy middle area where these meet, but Blizzard doesn't keep up theirs, and it's not obvious if any amount that they *could* keep up would be enough. Whether or not any of /v/ of WoW immediately enjoys the idea, making the game more of a sandbox would make it infinitely better, and it's as simple as making consequences to playing (i.e. the gear drop in free roam memes).

Everyone who actually played Cata knows the only bad patch was Dragon soul and everyone remembers because it was the 'worst' final patch, Firelands was one of the best raids ever.
Mists had consistently good (ToT was great) raids, lots of content and was all around solid. The only people who complain are memers with 'muh kungfu pandas' which was admittedly retarded.
WoD was 'it's fucking nothing' the expansion from beta till august. Legion right now on a buggy unstable beta is better then WoD ever was.

This is why I loved seasonal/holiday quests. They make even high level people go back to old zones.
Also, they should make every single settlement, even tiny encampments be captureable. And holding them gives your faction a worldwide benefit, making horde and alliance forever compete for that global buff.
Think of it this way. Holding the farmland in, let's say Westfall, opens up merchant NPCs and daily givers, allowing players to farm stuff, which essentially "feeds" the population with a buff. Players can also collect special veggies or whatever which heal or something better, or just something to sell. But here's where the PVP can come in. You can either pillage the farms to make the opposing faction suffer, or you can defend it to keep the buff.
Same with city leaders. Killing them should make the opposing faction suffer some kind of price increase for vendors, giving people and initiative to defend Ogrimmar or Stormwind, especially Silvermoon, since nobody goes there.

So I'm trying to decide between mages and warlocks, frost is actually really fun and interesting, but fire and arcane are pretty bland. Meanwhile for the warlocks all 3 specs are pretty cool, but not nearly as good as frost. Do I go with the class that has 1 good spec, or the one with 3 decent specs?

Mounts, titles, and even transmog gear is shared between characters now, so you could just make the warlock your fall back instead of the other mage specs.
You'd have to level it to 110 again but the other mage specs would need to play catch up with their artifacts anyway.
I quit when they homogenized every healing class to be exactly the same in wotlk.
TBC tree druid was op as hell but it was also the most fun.
Then they go after the 'fun' spells, remove bubble hearth, and butcher unholy and frost death Knight tanking and just ruin everything. I don't like what this game became.

Yes, Legion will be good. Don't listen to the jaded naysayers. Let's break it down:
>Class Design:
Overall, less buttons than before, but most classes feel a lot more fun to play now, especially with the new animations and sounds. Each spec feels more unique and different from another than before, so replay-ability has increased as well. Compared to vanilla, you have less abilities in total but you press more of your buttons a lot more frequently. Depth varies from spec to spec.
>Raiding
It's quality as usual. The two raids are Emerald Nightmare and The Nighthold, a castle in Suramar. Final bosses are Xavius and Gul'dan. From Beta testing, I can say there's quite a few fights that are interesting, and a couple that are simple and mostly used for breaking into the raid.
RNG mechanics are prevalent, hate it or love it. LFR players CAN receive a piece similar in quality to base Mythic gear, but the chance is incredibly low. Mythic players can also receive even higher quality pieces compared to base level Mythic gear, and the chance for that is higher than for LFR upgrades.
>Dungeons
There are 10 dungeons on release, more than what came with Warlords of Draenor. Each dungeon is more interesting and atmospheric than any WoD dungeon, which were forgettable, for the most part. There are various difficulties: Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and Mythic+. Mythic+ are "challenge-mode" Diablo-style dungeons where the difficulty is continuously ramped up until you cannot beat the timer on the dungeon, and that's when you can cash in your keystone for your weekly loot prize.

>Questing
There are only 4 leveling zones, but they are far higher quality than anything they've done before. There's more voice acting, music, cutscenes, and story lines than ever before. You can do the zones in any order you like, and helping out a lower level is profitable for you as well.
Word quests - there's hundreds of them at max level. From anything to killing a few mobs to downing a world raid boss (and there's 10 of them). I see tons of players out in the world because of these world quests, and there's even World PvP areas where you can fight your own faction because of some event happening.

The jury's out on this one. Balance is a horrible mess. The PvP talent system though is pretty cool and definitely needed to give PvP devs more freedom to design PvP alongside PvE.
>Patch Content
They are promising more patch content support than WoD. They know they fucked up with WoD and their "1 year expansion" goal isn't feasible whatsoever, so they are doubling down on the MoP-style patch cycle. We are getting a "Mega Dungeon" in 7.1, whatever that is. They are promising 3 raid tiers this time around, instead of only 2.

Well, it's not just LFR, you can get it from anymore in the world and dungeons as well. The chance is something like 0.1% so you're about as likely to recieve it as the Stratholme Rivendare mount. But it gives casuals some nice incentives to keep playing.
Keep in mind if the base Mythic ilvl is like 890, and LFR max item can go to 890 (from 820 lets say), then max Mythic ivl can go to 960, which LFR will never match.
