BASARA wasn't marketed in the West at all, and both times Capcom localized a game they fucked up in some way.
BASARA 1 got massively rewritten and turned into Devil Kings. A third of its playable cast was cut for no reason, any reference to feudal Japan was canned and a Prime mechanic was introduced that made the gameplay even more of a chore than it already was.
Samurai Heroes received a much better treatment BUT it wasn't advertised at all and thus didn't meet Capcom's already unreasonable expectations.
The whole genre is in a limbo as of now. The PS3 era had a great deal of these, what with Koei making Dynasty Warriors clones out of several anime but the fad seems to have died down recently.
The only upcoming games as far as I know are Sengoku BASARA: Yukimura's tale and the recently announced Berserk Musou.

The characters are super fun to play but when one campaign can take 8 hours, and the maps being repetitive as they are, it can get daunting. It took me a very long time but I finally did finish it. For the action game genre? DMC3SE, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden Black, and God Hand are easily the best.
For musou? Hyrule Warriors isn't bad from what I played but everyone in this thread will pretty much tell you Basara 3 or 4. Both have vanilla and upgraded versions. In release order it's 3 vanilla, Utage, 4 vanilla, then Sumeragi.
3 vanilla is the only one that had an English localization. It's a very significant step below what Utage is in terms of content, but still a very serviceable game. Admittedly it can get repetitive however due to lacking objective variety. Characters in both personality and gameplay are the best in the whole of mmusou however.
tl;dr: 3 vanilla if you don't mind some lack of content and just wanna hop into musou, 4 Sumeragi if you can handle a few nipspeak menus and just want gameplay.
