I went the complete opposite; started with Sen1 and Sen2 then went FC, Zero and Ao. Haven't finished SC and the 3rd but I already knew most of those games' plots to not have been spoiled while I was playing Zero and Ao.
That being said, 3D was the worst thing to happen to kiseki. Character models are boring and the animations are amateur as fuck in Sen1, slightly more polished in Sen2 but still ass. The movement is not as fluid in 3D as it was in 2D and you can barely even sneak up on monsters as they immediately turn around even when you're approaching them directly from behind.
You can't even look up skirts as the camera won't allow to lower it beyond a certain height.
3D was a mistake and you should be ashamed for liking it over what made past kiseki games feel like a kiseki game.

One big problem Cold steel had for me was the cast was way to big. For example herconflict with the sword autist girl came out of fucking nowhere just for the sake of drama. And she was way to adjusted to being a child soldier no PSTD or anything just I'M SLEEPY ALL THE TIME LMAO XD.
