Apart from Wacky Workbench (cool idea, poor execution) and a couple of areas in Metallic Madness I thought the level design was generally decent-good.
Also everything about Stardust Speedway was perfect from the aesthetic to the level design to the music (both US and JP) and I will fight anyone who disagrees with me.

Accurate. The time travel gimmick ultimately gets in the way. They should have made more levels instead of "alternate" levels that stop your momentum to shoot you off into a pallet swap.
