OoK is the GOAT boss from these games alongside Ludwig. Manus is my favorite boss from DaS tho. Hopefully the DaS III DLC delivers some kickass bosses. The bosses in the base game were fine, but a bit disappointing after Old Hunters.

Gehrman was my favorite but from a design perspective the Souls of Cinder was great. The actual implementation was done poorly, it could have been the best boss fight of the Souls series if they had tweaked him just a little bit

Both phases I would say Gehrman is the most consistently parryable boss in any of the games. It is incredible how easy that boss is once you realize the timing. Gwyn is easy too, but he's more aggressive, so if you do fuck up a parry you definitely don't have time to heal back up unless you land another one. Gehrman will let you back off and heal regardless of phase.

Frankly, DS3 is the only Souls game without a complete pushover boss. I wonder if it's on purpose to make you feel empowered? Like, you deserve to be cool for once and murderize the posers who never had to struggle for their positions. Lore wise I like Aldia a lot. He isn't even fighting for any other reason than to test your resolve, and he doesn't actually die (you don't gain souls when you beat him and of course he talks in the secret ending). Also he has a great theme.

You could easily scum gwyn more than you cuold Gehrman just because of that. Plus you couldn't parry Gehrman unlimited number of times like you can with Gwyn because you'll eventually run out of bullets if you fucked up enough times.

I just think Gwyn is more dangerous. Gehrman will give you plenty of windows of opportunity to heal - no scumming required - and doesn't try and finish you off. He's also easier to parry, and bullets are finite but you can get more by trading away life if you really need to.

Why did they obviously switch Nameless King and Soul of Cinder before launch?
SoC was a massive pushover. After the second phase i was hoping to get a third because there's no way that the last boss of the game should have been that easy.
But then i got to Nameless King and got my shit pushed in hard. In fact i still can't beat him despite being about SL110 and respec'd for ultimate cheese. It's a hard fight that requires awareness, concentration, and punishes roll/dodge spam and just improper play, something that the final boss _should_ do. But SoC doesn't even hold a candle

As someone who has never died fighting SoC, I agree. He's way too easy for there not to have been at least some last-minute changes, while Nameless King is a genuinely difficult fight that I struggled with.

It's pretty clear why SoC is the final boss and NK is an optional boss in a pretty well hidden area if you don't go and look it up that also answers one of those big questions from the first game.
