The actual game will be streamed from their servers using an algorithm that pulls data when you need it and deletes it when you don't.

6gb isn't the entire game
>>
That's not how procedural generation works, so either they lied for some reason about ever having creating a procedural generation algorithm or you're wrong.

And there's already a thread.

Not lying

he explains everything about the technology in this video

The misinformation about this game is amazing

I've seen parts of this video, but I was never bored enough to watch the whole thing and I'm not goign to do it now. When does he say the content is "streamed" from their servers?

Content being procedurally generated on demand and then deleted from memory when it's no longer needed isn't the same as streaming.

Wow it's like the worst of both worlds.

Server was the wrong word to use. What I mean is everyone connects to a single build of the game and then the information is "pulled" from Hello Game's release build.
The math algorithm creates only what is needed and deletes it when the player exits the planet to make room for more data

Which is sad because my internet going out would be the only that could make me play a game like NMS. Needs an offline mode that has a few cool planets with their own set-aside inhabitants and scenarions, imho. That would be good.

He's describing procedural generation, not streaming.

>>344716603

Streamed was also the wrong word to use. The whole sentence was wrong. But I guess I'm just nitpicking if the point was that the 6 GB file size is misleading, because that part is correct.

The attached image is a screenshot from a game which is less than 50 MB.

This guy has a lot of passion, more so than most devs now a days.
The problem is if this game can perform on the scale they're hoping for.
Is this getting a pc release?

That makes no sense though, they've already said you can play it offline but just won't be able to use the atlas, unless somethings changed since then?

The game probably will be always-online just because it's 2016, but it's not streamed from their servers. OP made that part up.
>>

>This also enables the game to be played locally offline in addition to online, as there is no server-side storage of the universe, with all details being generated on-the-fly as the user plays the game.[10] However, players will need to be online to register their finds to the Atlas.[8]

are you insane, or just retarded?

Idiot. He said it's not on a cloud, or your hard drive. It's just a bunch of equations fed into bigger equations. Not a single crafted, directed experience to be found anywhere.

This. I have no fucking clue why this game was marketed as a triple A game for the CoD kiddies.

It looks like a decent enough exploration toy, but it's going to be incredibly niche, and the marketing is setting it up for a HUGE failure

>>344718357

How is it getting marketed as a AAA game?

Everything in the marketing as far as I know has been about exploring the galaxy, which is the point of the game
>>
>>344718098
This. It can't be what OP is saying if it's gonna be have a DRM-free version out there. Unless the version on GoG will be severely gimped, which I highly doubt since that would cause a shitstorm for them.

choose fucking one. If spore couldn't get this shit right with 100 times the budget of these random hipsters, do you really think this game is gonna be worth a shit? It'll be filled with nearly identical planets that have a few different rocks and trees and mostly empty space. I wager after 5 hours of play this game will have lost most of its intrigue.
>>
>>344719096

Nobody but shitposters trying to make /v/ hate the game even more than they already do talk about about "infinite content" and bullshit like that
