The enemy placement in KOTOR 2 was just total shit at certain points, and the ending was abysmal. It might have some more interesting ideas and characters but I think 1 is way more consistently enjoyable.
No nostalgia bias, either. I played 2 first (my first rpg next to morrowind) and didn't play 1 until about a decade later.

It is a buggy broken mess, I couldn't even play it on my PC, had to take sister's laptop, but it is just more memorable, and although the ending is kinda crappy, your decisions matter more throughout the game. Also characters are waaay better.
