This meme has seen quite a resurgence lately. Not him but I agree. It's not the art style or lack of "maturity" that's the problem, it's the Rare platformers game design. It's really not as fun as you remember.
I love the fuck out of BK and this one looks extremely bad gameplay wise. Honestly I don't know why the fuck people still fall for the "hurr it's like that game we made 20 years ago give us money so we can make another one except worse and horribly outdated" meme still.
