I've been getting BSODs when I play games
I thought it was from a heat issue since my CPU fan was on overdrive at 7000 RPM, so I bought a new heatsink and case. It helped a little, but I'm still getting crashes during games. I was able to go from 5 minutes of Dragon's Dogma to about 30 before the system crashed.
I played DOOM for about 30 minutes as well before the game crashed. I was able to still hear sounds and the steam message bloops, but I couldn't do anything other than move the mouse. When I hit the power button on my case the BSOD appeared.
I looked at the minidump file, and it gave me
BugCheck 1A, {41792, fffff680001d7fc0, 20000, 0}
Probably caused by : memory_corruption ( ONE_BIT )

Does that mean my RAM is dying, and if so, is there any way to actually see if that's the problem
>>
just wipe your hard drive and reinstall your OS

I recently bought a new SSD, so I did a fresh install of Windows. This was the reason I got that hard drive, so that's not a solution

Have you checked the temps at load? As long as it's under 90, your CPU should be fine
>>
>>344627840
>7000 rpm
You fucking wot m8
>>
>>344627840
That could be a number of things. Memory corruption doesn't specifically mean RAM, it could also be Vram (so your graphics card). I remember I had this issue on the very first cpu I built and it was because I didn't put my graphics card all the way in. So double check that. Next you are going to need to do some testing. Swap out videocards and swap out ram. If it's still a problem then its the mobo. Get memtest and run it.
>>
Check your event viewer for other errors

Buy a console man, they are cheaper, and they run high end games more reliably. No muss, no fuss. Computers are good for indie games and emulation and single player and hacks and stuff, but if you just want to play dragons dogma, buy a 360, they are dirt cheap now.

Run memtest and if it is clear then boot into bips setup (press f8 or f12 on boot screen) and modify your DRAM voltage up 0.5V. I was getting random BSOD from memory_management and that ceased when i went from 1.5V to 1.56V on my RAM.

I doubt its your VRAM, that wouldnt give the memory corruption issue. If you built your PC yourself its possible you ESD'd a RAM stick and rekt a chip? Id suggest playing on one stick and then the oother to test if BSODs still come up

Anon, you could have any number of issues when you're playing on a literal chinkrig. But here is a decent method of identifying problems.

Disconnect all non essential USB devices first, they can cause more issues than you might think.

Reinstall all your essential drivers, flash your bios, IE make sure it is NOT software related.

Disconnect your HDDs, run solely off your SSD.

AIDA64 stress test individual components and CPU cores. If you experience crashes constantly with the same test, you have found your culprit if it was none of the above.

Next time don't skimp so much on parts, save up and build a decent system as bottom~mid range gaming shit is usually just that, shit.

The fact that for a while, AMD didn't have an easy fix like XMP doesn't help.

>>344630208
I'm not sure about AM3+ boards but Asus boards usually have an idiot proof system OC in the bios that will clock up your CPU to an acceptable level along with set your XMP or whatever it is for AMD, for you.

You have to actually tell the board to both overclock and set your XMP.

It's quite possible the anon never booted to bios.

Also, nobody should use the board set overclocks, especially the higher ones like 4.X

They overvolt the chips to fuck and they always run hot.

Under gaming or under prime, senpai?

When I tested out the 4.6 default on my 2500k, it shoved 1.41 in there and it ran mid 60s under W3 and hit 85c under prime.

Personally, anything more than 65c after an hour of prime isn't ideal.

When I set it myself I got the same 4.6 on 1.34
>>

At least DDR3 is cheap as fuck.

Might as well pick up some 2133mhz. Helps with older overclocked CPUs.

I had a similar issue awhile back... tho mine was a 7870k processor. I tried every fucking thing and it nothing worked until I decided to buy whole brand new motherboard. My problem is that they slide the Windows 10 updates into other updates labeled as "important" or "improves connectivity" or other bullshit. Without a guide you can't figure out what updates are going to fuck you and what ones are okay.

I don't have the patience so I disabled them outright to make sure I don't get any bullshit. I don't want Microsoft gathering data from my computer or anything like that.
>>
>>344634191
you're not entirely wrong, but you're probably missing some vital/actually decent updates.

You can lookup which ones are w10 specific.

AMD CPU's shouldn't exceed 62-64 degrees, if it's reaching 70 it most likely is overheating, you'll probably need to buy a third party cooler and some quality paste.

Welcome to windows where compatibility issues happens despite they making sure that it shouldn't happen.

This is hardware failure due to some conflict of two pieces of hardware. Can be RAM, HDs, CPU, MOBO, GPU or anything that can be attached to the main board.

Just make sure every BIOS is updated, all drivers are up to date to.

Is my PC poorly put together? I let my friends put it for me since they know about PCs a little more than I do.
But I now want to make a better PC since I dip into the 30s on any new game. Can I salvage anything from this build or should I just start from scratch when I start my new one. Also will my peformance increase if I set my ram to its correct numbers. (1600) since Im running it at half. yes I read above but he was at 1300 so he isnt too far off.
>>
>>344640835
Depends on what you're gonna put together next. Keep the HDD and GPU tho.
>>
>>344640835
Well you don't exactly have strong parts.
But with a little tweaking you should be able to hit 60s in a lot of games.
just turn down the AA.
>>
>>344641258
>>344641409
My main gripe is Ds3. I lowered everything and turned shaders shadows ect. Low to the max. And it still dips to 30s.
maybe its a shit port but ds2 hits 60 like it was born too. And the new build in mind is gonna use the 1080 when its in stock. Any ideas on what other parts can I pair it with. Like intel or AMD? Also is my ram fine where its at? It says 1600 and 10-10-10-30 for intel items. Maybe im fine.

Speedfan is a worthless piece of shit. The sensor detection is poor, the automatic naming is a bad joke and it also pads the list with nonexistent sensors, and the other features are just useless bloat. HWMonitor is orders of magnitude better in every way, there's absolutely no reason to use Speedfan unless you're stuck in 2004 where good temp/fan sensing programs simply didn't exist yet

ram speed isn't important in games, you could literally pick 8 gb of 800 or 8gb of 2400 and the difference could be a maximum of 2 fps.
>>
Realistically, how much would I need to spend to build a computer, capable of 60 FPS in shitty f2p MMO and WoW? My laptop died recently, I got it for free in 2012 and it lasted me till february but it finally shit the bed. I've been on a shitty desktop with an ultra-gaussed monitor, it's like hulk green tinted, and the desktop is literally dumpster tier. It was a $200 build in 2011. It can't handle 60fps 1080p youtube, just to give you an example, so it's got absolutely nothing I want to keep, even the mouse and keyboard i'm using are total garbage.

I have about $600 right now set aside for it. I was thinking of just doubling that, would that be good enough? I don't really need a 1000 series card, so I figure a 960/970 ought to be plenty for what I want to do, and hold me through a few years if not more till I decide to upgrade. The CPU is the biggest concern for me. I was thinking 6500 or 6600k.

I'm aware I could go AMD but I have no experience with them, at all. The last time I used any AMD parts was when I upgraded to play area 51, back in 2005, and that PC died not long after, and I just never bothered re-using the card for anything. So it's not that I don't want any AMD parts, I just have no clue how they are in comparison, because I haven't used them in forever and a day.

Also, does anyone have any advice on good monitors? I don't need anything special or gaming branded or whatever dumb shit, just a regular 1080p monitor would be nice. I've been on 900p for the last few years.
>>
>>344636987
This. A $20-$40 one makes gives me a temp range of 14C idle, 40C during load (subject to how often you dust it of course).

I've only had a BSOD from Atom Zombie Smasher not supporting my specific card. Try checking forums to see if this is an issue others are having.
>>
>>344646292
>$1200
Pretty decent. Though in my experience MMOs are all over the place in terms of performance. A build at this level should sort out some of the poor optimization, but really most performance problems are from the developer itself rather than your computer.

>>
>>344646869
That's what I was basing it on. I'm playing riders of icarus, maplestory, runescape and WoW, or, was, anyway. Those games don't have particularly high reqs, but I hop from fotm game to fotm game since I stream them, so the ability to future proof at least in some menial capacity would be nice.
>>
>>344631218
798.1 * 2 = 1596.2 ~= 1600, anon.

Double Data Rate
>>
>>344647210
Get a good motherboard with recent slots. This allows you to upgrade in the future (as in years from now) without having to rebuild your entire computer. $1200 should be able to last 5 years. And really by then you'll just be putting settings on normal/low rather than being unable to play new games outright (and by then normal settings will just be today's maximum settings). And it's nothing a GPU upgrade won't solve anyway.
>>
>>344648191
If I get a new mobo wouldn't I need newer components otherwise too? I'm not kidding I don't have ANYTHING. this is total build from absolutely nothing, no case, no anything. A good mobo+cpu would be like 700 off the bat, that leaves almost nothing after I toss in the $230-240 for the GPU too. are 2011 socket mobos really the future?
>>
>>344648556
$700 for a mobo + CPU is total overkill, try $400. LGA1150/1151 is actually superior for generic /v/irgin use because of the faster cores available on that platform, 2011v3 is just a giant waste of money for gaymen
>>
>>344649568
That's what I thought, and why I was gonna go with a 6500. 2011v3 seemed like overkill ESPECIALLY for me. The only new game I am even remotely interested in is gonna be bannerlord, and I doubt that's gonna have super high reqs.

This. If you have a faulty hard drive, it can still affect the machine even if you dont use it. Same with faulty USB devices AND USB slots.

Generally if games and the system run strangely slow or make the machine even freeze completely, its a sign of a hard drive dying and fast. Good thing is its relatively cheap to replace with a new one.

While this is here, I've been having overheating problems with my build for a while. I reapplied thermal paste to the CPU, dusted multiple times, made sure there was decent airflow, and even bought a 3rd fan, but I'm still getting pretty high temps. It's become such a problem that even having youtube open once in a blue moon while doing something else will BSoD my PC (as well as playing Overwatch on the lowest settings). I am not sure what it is and nobody has been able to help me. As for a side question, should I get an RX 480 for this build? Not looking to run everything at max setings. Just want to run some games at a higher quality while still getting 60fps. In other words, higher than my PS4

heat is your biggest enemy, you have 3 mechanical hdd's, them and their cables may cause some problems
I guess summer is also a problem (no pun intended)
overall, check your system ram and check your gpu and cpu thermal paste; they might just have given up, seeing the age
