IX was the best, really felt like an epic fantasy adventure
VII and VIII are good but not in the same way, XIII is pure garbage
9 is my favorite by far. 13 is terrible, tried to play it twice and couldn't take anymore after 10-15 hours each time. If we're counting mmo's though 14 may have got stale since a bit after Heavensward but it's given me a lot of fun times too
XIII was legitimately a good game and it even avoided some of the problems present in FFXin exchange for other problems.
I like the lack of random encounters especially.

It's interesting, I was dying in some pre-Pulse fights and was wondering if me skipping battles was what held me back, which made me mad. But then, after watching videos and a walkthrough, I realized I just didn't understand the Paradigm system enough and easily beat each boss.

I don't like its setting or characters. It feels very medieval fantasy in style and that puts me off. It comes off as overly familiar and generic, making it hard for me to get into. I didn't get too far in it though, so I'd be willing to give it a second chance.

XIII is my favorite because it's my first FF.
The combat is amazing if you turn off auto battle f.a.m. I finished the game twice on Xbox and bought it again and beat it on the PS3. I'm probably autistic but the combat, fucking 10/10 world and atmosphere, and the musicand the CGI cutsceneskept me hooked on the game.

It's pretty solid. I like the battle system. The chain mechanic and the importance of status and buffs/debuffs keeps things interesting.
i love final fantasy but at the same time i hate it and i feel like it could be so much better if every single game was an ivalice game, even though i loved 7 8 and 9.
but no shit if every game was just an ivalice game this would be the best rpg franchise. there's just better stuff out there.

No, usually there isn't anything special about the towns or shops in FF. Though I guess "special" is very vague
FFX will always be my favorite. The setting and the game itself is vibrant and colorful. There is a quotation from one of the creators that talks about how "fantasy" is usually associated with medieval settings and designs, so he wanted to do something different; I think they did an incredible job creating a unique and immersive fantasy world. While it has its flaws (subpar translation with even poorer voice portrayal, forced blitzball in Luca), what stands out to me in this game is the story and the themes it addresses like religion and racism. And the music is just phenomenal. I don't know if it will always be my favorite video game, but it will always be my favorite FF.

It bored me to tears. It finally got decent in Chapter 12 (Gran Pulse world opens + combat options finally become interesting) but that doesn't last long since Chapter 13 returns to linear shit and zones with rearranging floor tiles. FFT and 12 are best.
